I have watched all your yankee capts videos!! My friends and i are going on the halfway ledge trip in april. and looking at their tackle requirements they are calling for 8ft rods i assume that the slow pitch rod your using is acceptable and if so please let me know how to get a couple of these outfits , thank you and tight lines!!

I have a custom mutton rod, a heavier grouper rod, spinning reel jigging outfit 40# class, A torium jigging set up 50#. And I was wondering If its worth it to invest in a slow pitch outfit before going. I plan to do a bit of jigging. I've picked up quite a few slow pitch and various style jigs already. Also do you know of a place to buy reasonably priced assist hooks? Thank you in advance!!

How many pounds of drag are you using. I’ve heard anything from 25% up to 35% of the line strength what would be a good for the 40lb j braid you are using.

an average with mono is 1/3 breaking strength, its more with braid. As long as its not damaged, braided line is incredibly strong!

I have a question that no one seems to be able to answer....Are slow pitch rods stiff or floppy? Are fast jigging rods stiffer than a slow pitch rod? Would a fast pitch rod that has a max jig weight of 500g and a line rating PE 4-6 be harder to bend than a slow pitch rod with a max jig weight of 300g and a PE rating of 2-4? I'm wanting to figure out the stiffer of the two. Thank you to anyone who can help.

The main line and leader pretty thick... for light slow jigging my choice p.e 0.8-1.5 in pound probably around 12-20lbs max jig 150g.... medium gear p.e 2-4 ...30-38lbs and max jig 200-300g. For heavy gear my choice p.e6 around 50lbs max jig 500g. Most important is diameter of p.e line ....fight the big fish with your feel not rod or line seems in slow jigging everything is thin and sensitive

I thought you didn’t have to pump the rod. Just use the rod to absorb the runs of the fish but primarily fight the fish with the reel

Hate to say it but please do not spread misinformation. This is not slow pitch jogging in the slightest. Just because you’re using an American marketed slow pitch rod and jig doesn’t mean it’s slow pitch jigging. The technique you use when you jig makes it slow pitch. Also with a real slow pitch rod you are meant to point the rod at the fish and fight the fish with the reel. The rod is purely designed to correctly impart action on a specific range of jig weights.

No I didn’t mention spinning reels at all. Most slow pitch rods are in fact conventional. Most of the new level wind reels with power handles were in fact designed with jigging in mind

This is slow pitch jigging. Our slow pitch rods are manufactured on Black Hole blanks, not American made though the rods are assembled here in Florida. Many of the jigs we fish are from Japan, including Sea Floor Control. - Capt Mike

Peterk814 - You're totally correct. This is indeed not slow pitch jigging. Capt. Mike, I suggest you take a little vacation to Japan before spreading misinformation.

Black Hole blanks are made in Korea and China. If you ask anyone in the Japanese market, those blanks are worthless. As a matter of fact, Kil song the representative of Black Hole USA, when he makes his test videos never actually uses those rods for slow jigging. He always uses bait. If that was the case, then any rod would be able to be a "slow pitch" rod. What folks here don't comprehend is that the rod is only used to impart the action necessary to make the jig properly dance in the water.
