Thank you, Sean! It was very pleasing to know that I am not alone struggling with slow growing syngoniums. I can only speculate why would they do it. I suspect that those are grown from the tissue culture. So I got the top cuttings of the same varieties from private collectors, and these are growing much better.

Interesting stuff about your ZZs! They all look very nice. I just got a sad ZZ raven who had one good growth point, but now it's putting out four at the same time! So far it's only been just one stem growing out, but I didn't know they grew one stem at a time. I always learn something new in your videos!

I have a couple of ZZ plants, a normal and a raven. They are both the same size and were purchased a couple weeks apart. I repotted them into a quick-draining, sandy soil (they were in coconut coir when I bought them). The normal ZZ is looks the same, but the raven has 8 growth points all coming up at the same time. It's crazy, but exciting!

I repot my Dad’s regular ZZ in an airy but damp potting mix and place them in direct sunlight for about 6 months ago. They were originally under the shade of giant mango tree and there weren’t any growth so I decided to move them steadily to brighter spot until they can withstand full sun. They received irregular watering schedule (sometimes weekly, sometimes once every 3 days, also there was one time where I water them almost daily 😅 basically I water them when I think it looks dry) and also got rained daily during the wet season. I feed them once with slow release fertilizer and Hormax solution a couple of times during these 6 months. They started as 4 big shoots and now they’re a full 35cm pot plant. There’s almost no space left in the pot for them to push out new shoot now!

Regular ZZ di rumahku cepet banget kok tumbuhnya. Kayaknya setiap kali ditengok pasti ada calon daun baru. Tapi emang proses unfurlingnya itu makan waktu sih. Aku taruh di pinggir teras lantai dua, south facing, bright indirect light tiap hari, direct sun sekitar siang beberapa jam gitu. Siram seingetnya 😂 walaupun kadang siram keseringan juga, tapi untungnya ga busuk. Hampir ga pernah dikasih pupuk Medianya ya cuma tanah kompos, sekam, cocopeat.

Wrinkle but hard/firm bulb may be sign of underwatering. Squeeze it gently. If its mushy and soft it could be rotten/overwatered

@Tropicalplantnerd3 жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants Yes they are definitely spores. But you cannot harvest those because ferns are Pteridophytes and they(spores) need water for their fertilization. They are not seeds. We cannot just harvest and store them. Don't do anything they will propagate on their own. I hope that helps. Happy planting. Love you ❤️

Ok Sean, I don't doubt your experience and expertise with houseplants but I couldn't disagree more with you about ZZ plants. In my experience, when they get good light and adequate water, they will grow like crazy. I gave my office neighbor a 6 inch pot about a month ago and he put it in on a high shelf in a room without windows. There are currently 5 tiny new shoots sprouting out. My understanding is low light tolerant plants tend to be fast growers when they get medium to bright indirect light.
@onlyplants3 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have some of these grown in direct sunlight too and they are quite slowww. But I do hear stories of peoples plants growing quickly so maybe I havent figured out the care yet. Or maybe its got to do with luck or the DNA or the plant in hand?
@billadama3 жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants Make your own luck ;-) For a zz plant in direct sun I would suggest combining your aroid potting mix with a terra cotta pot and water at least once a week or whenever it dries out. Sounds crazy, but cacti in direct summer sun can take multiple waterings per week according to an expert. I suspect the limiting factor for growth of your plant is water.
@agathan.9443 жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants From my own ZZ I found that they spontaneously go dormant up to 4 months long. You can water, fertilize, whatever - nothing is going on. And then it will wake up and grow fast until next dormancy. I did not find any connection with re-potting or change of seasons. Like the plant has it's own mind and it's own opinion when to rest.
