Love all the comments from people who think it's so easy. Probably never swung a bat or ever played slo pitch. Been playing for 25 years and it has everything to do with technique not just swinging the bat. I've seen 6'3, 250 pound guys in slo pitch who can't even get it out of the infield. Either popping up or grounding out. I've also seen 150 pound guys cranking home runs every second at bat. All about technique and proper swing. Great video and commentary.

Metal Marty when I tried to transition from baseball to slow pitch softball I struggled so much. The fielding and throwing was easy, it’s basically the same, but batting was a pain in the ass. I used to bat .300 but as soon as I played softball, my average dropped to about .210. I’ve got the hang of it now but it’s still hard.

Amen! And it's about your work ethic too. Let me tell you, I'm a bit above average size for a girl my age; I'm 5'5 and 170 lbs. I've always been one of the largest girls on my team and I used to be the WORST at hitting. I was always hitting ground balls and could not hit for shit. It wasn't until I worked harder and learned new techniques that I became the best batter on my team.

I am 5'10 150 and I have hit a few homers in softball and baseball games. Weight helps a lot but doesn't do shit for you if you can't square up on the ball. I had player on my team who was 6'6 275 and all he did was hit massive fly balls for outs 90% of the time while i hit the gaps and use my speed to get doubles and triples. occasionally i would really slap one good put on over or near the fence. I would rather bat .600-.750 with no homers than .250 with a homerun every game

Good video. I struggled with the baseball to softball switch for my first couple seasons. The tip that changed everything for me was take my practice swings about shoulders high. I don't swing at alot pitches up there. It just keeps me swinging more down on the ball. I found myself being to impatient and swinging at bad pitches or getting my weight out on my. So I just trashed my baseball stance and start all the way open step up on the pitch. It looks ridiculous but it keeps me back.
@midgety112 жыл бұрын
thanks for the video sir. This is a big help. When I get a good hit it goes to the fence, but I have had big problems making contact near the handle. I thought It was the pitcher trying to jam me up by pitching it inside. Now that I know it could be a timing issue I can work on that! thanks again

I played hardball my entire life and going from that to softball was insane. It took me about 6 at bats to move back in the box, I was used to hardball where your up in the box but in arc you need to be as far back as possible

Thanks for bringing light to the timing issue for me. I typically stand further back away from the plate assuming i could get my arms extended but still making contact towards the handle. Looks like I need to maybe meet the ball a little further out front.

I legit tried the 3 fingers choke down and was able to hit successful and even got a grand slam off of it. Less aiming and more contact with a better delay

Thank you.. Learned some good tips.. I'm one of those that stand close to plate.
@chrisseaver715111 жыл бұрын
I started doing it just on the 1st pitch of the game and taking it to help timing. Then swing regular. It just started feeling more natural over time. Just have to pick your pitch because 90% of pitchers will throw you nothing but crap to try make you chase. Then they gotta serve one close. I see people try and do it for extra power but all it ever does is screw themselves in the ground

Great tips. Size does help with power but you need to have good technique regardless. I'm 165 and never try going yard. I hit the ball hard into gaps and use my speed for extra bases. I know plenty 200 plus lb guys that think they can just swing there guys out and hit a dinger. Well without proper technique they either pop out or strikeout. Stick to what you're good at and where your skills are. For me it's my speed and contact.

Is there a difference in swinging an end loaded bat as opposed to a balanced bat?
@nataliegreen883510 жыл бұрын
there is a little difference but if you are using a packed ball it would travel farther with a balanced bat. at my ballpark we use non packed balls so we used balanced bats but back to your question it depends on how strong you are and what your preference is:) hope this helped :)

Achsu Puvee hope tryouts went well. Fast pitch is a bit different than slow pitch. Unless it's slow pitch try outs which I find interesting. My advice on fast pitch: keep your weight and hands back on a change up and align your knuckles so the bat doesn't rotate.

LOL. No, but a lot of big, heavy guys who couldn't compete in any other athletic endeavor can be, and have been, very successful in slow-pitch. If you play on fields with a fence, you can be a big home-run hitter, pitch a little, or play first base. I've always played in leagues with big fields and no fences - you can't just be a big guy and swing away every time. I'll can of corn you all day long. You'll have to learn to actually hit, and even then a lack of speed will probably hurt.

Atrasz you probably cant even hit. Talkin like that, seems like you never played before. No matter what it is, softball/baseball, you always have to have technique
@Retro_Fan11 жыл бұрын
It's slow-pitch softball. Just swing the bat. If you can't hit a ball the size of a grapefruit travelling at half the speed of smell, move onto something easier. Try competitive walking.
@gehrigmandrin52117 жыл бұрын
atrasz bro your so right😂
@BryenGraver6 жыл бұрын
Ha, true, but depending on who/how you play, it's much more than just hitting the ball. Our league hits the ball plenty - most everyone in the league hits plenty per your reasoning - but it doesn't always translate. Technique like this helps to control where you hit the ball for a better chance at dropping it where they're not fielding.

Hitting is ALL about technique. The more I learned from my coaches the better I hit over the years. Hitting the ball is the easy part, but hitting accurately to get speed and distance requires much skill.
