@@janetnash There are just sooooo many ways to get started with slow stitching that I was in a tizzy! But I finally settled on teaching them to attach fabric pieces to a base fabric with invisible basting. Then I showed them the running stitch and had them do parallel rows and then perpendicular rows. The students belong to NY state retired teachers group so I get an evil pleasure assigning them homework!!!! LOL Paybacks for all my school years of homework! I'm looking forward to seeing what they completed during the week. We worked on a small rectangle and I demo'd how to sew on a center "page" of felt to turn it into a little needle book. This morning we had some shopping to do but now I'm relaxing with my morning coffee and doing some origami samples for a Lunar New Year program. It's going to be the year of the dragon.

Gail lovely to see you and there were plenty close ups of Freddie for MaggieMae 🐾🫖 what a wonderful memory that is for you, can you remember the colours of your little penny rugs ? where they layered circles ? felt used to be of natural fabric now it can be synthetic ? Have a gentle day 🩵🐾

I still have the penny rugs and use them as you might use doilies. I have a plant sitting on one and a pair of lamps on the other 2. As a base, I had black felt. The circles were all a variety of colors...whatever color felt I could find. I would sew smaller circles onto slightly larger ones of contrasting colors. I did a simple stitch around the edge too as I placed a backi ng on them to keep everything looking neat. It is hard to imagine walking on them, isn't it. I agree they very well may have been placed at the foot of the bed for warmth. They are a lot of fun to make and pretty to look at.

Regarding HP Sauce …. THIS has always been the only allowable “spice” for my Dad (he of very deep English roots). As a kid … I could never figure out whyyyyyyy the parliament buildings were on the bottle because it makes no sense. Also - I was a free range kid pre internet so there was no knowing. Also - you have the upside down-y bottles that we have ketchup in. All our hips are right side up squeeze bottles. What do you most put up sauce on? Is there a favourite?

Maryellen good morning ☕️ as a child I can’t even remember registering the Houses of Parliament on the sauce bottle, I was too busy waiting for the back door to open so I could run into the veg patch or field in the back !!! HP sauce is an absolute must for eggs on toast or cheese on toast and maybe Welsh Rarebit ( not rabbit ) Have you a favourite, nowadays sweet chilli sauce has entered the arena in our house too. Have a lovely arty week love to little Gracie 🩵
