Maddie seems like an absolute joy! Congrats to a happy marriage and may many more thoughtful gifts be built for many years! And being indecisive sucks sometimes but I also think it’s what pushes you to produce the best quality you’re capable of in the meantime because the motivation to not create mistakes drives you or at least me to work toward perfecting a skill. I can be incredibly indecisive till something clicks during a project and then usually it feels like I flow from step to step but there’s always that hard beginning with all projects where I feel adhd, my numerical dyslexia comes out and it’s a real struggle till something kicks in and then it gets easier from there

Dude, holy shit that piece about indecision really hit home for me. I do that CONSTANTLY w/ personal projects in coding and end up wasting so much time mulling over the right way to move forward, but I'm just crippling myself and keeping myself from creating. And it's so true what you said, there's no one way to do anything, so I just have to decide and keep it moving. Beautiful vid as always, really something special about your style.

I’ve been woodworking for over 45 years and so, perhaps, I can recognise excellence. I congratulate you on the quality of the pieces - not the hardest things ever to make but still require patience and precision. Skill is universal; aesthetic is personal. The designs you want for aren’t to our taste but so what? You’re building for your taste. If you and your wife like that aesthetic then it’s the right one.

I get what you mean about perfectionism getting in the way of decisions that may make a more interesting design. I think its important to have confidence in trying but to not be afraid of an outcome you didn't predict. obviously its different when its for a client or your wife who you dont want to let down but It would be pleasing to see you take more risks in your design, your craftsman ship is still that of an expert.

If you don't have to overthink a project, it's not worth doing. I make keepsake boxes out of fallen tree limbs. Sometimes I will look at the limbs half a day before I decide what to do with them. I wish I had that band saw though. With the one I have, I can only cut 5" high.

In terms combining life, family, and hobby/work and the narration of some relationship wisdom gives it a very Van Neistat-esk style videos. Also, you should've put "children's furniture" in my head. I can't see the table as anything else. 😞 But well executed.

Crushing it in life, as well as woodworking I see; Kudos. Perfect is the enemy of good and indecisiveness/meticulousness are both a gift and a curse; May you find the equilibrium that allows you creative freedom, while constrained to the realm of a completionist. Looking forward to your next projects. Thanks!

When needing to make a decision on something, I notice that most people come up with their perfect idea in a few seconds (ish). Then, once that idea comes out, that’s when they start critiquing said design and start messing and coming up with a whole host of other ideas; muddying that first idea, so to speak. Generally, your first idea is actually correct, but people can be scared to go with it because they’re worried about making a mistake. So I’d recommend writing that first idea down (or sketching it), because you may find that the first idea was correct all along - even if it’s only a starting point. If not… we’ll, that’s just part of learning. If that makes sense. Keep up the great work. I’m really enjoying your videos.
