I’ve always appreciated your work and atmospheres as well, but to see you and Slug discuss such heavy and deeper topics definitely makes you even more relatable to me as human beings. I fell over Atmosphere on a Punk o rama 8 cd from 2003, Bird Sings Why The Caged I Knows, been a massive fan ever since, only got to see them once, this year in Copenhagen, a 50th birthday gift from my why, I was buzzing for weeks. Obviously, via them, I discovered other great artists, Brother Ali, Prof., and Eyedea, some of my favourites. Great podcast. Big love to these legends. Peace to all in the comments!

Headliners Music Hall, Louisville Ky. I was there to see Atmosphere. I accidentally stood next to you in the crowd and said, " these guys are awesome ". Then you pulled a microphone out of your pocket and got up on stage!! I looked over at my brother and he just winked at me. Thank you for your music. It's healed and justified a whole lot of growing pains.

Thank you for this Brother Ali. Slug was my hero in high school, but in a weird way, because I also bought CDs from him at 5th Element and interacted with him in person. I realized that my teenage hero worship of him would likely be weird to him. Somehow, I've always understood that being famous is difficult, because I always understood that I somehow expected Slug to be more than just a normal human. This all went back to even before Lucy Ford dropped, I bought it directly from him. I've followed more or less at different times over the 24 years since first hearing Scapegoat on Radio K, could talk for a bit about all that. I have to say though, this is beautiful, this conversation here. Just hearing it gives me affirmation of sorts. Not sure how to explain it, something about his introspection, always knowing he was on the right path. God bless.

I really appreciate you sharing this. The intention behind this podcast is to talk to people that I know and love on a heart level about their journey. My life has taken me to places and circles that don’t often interact with one another. But I see so much beauty and meaning and pain and challenge in all of these people. So even if you don’t recognize all of the names on the podcast, it may be worthwhile to give them a lesson. Much appreciated!

@@BrotherAli_Travelers Happy Eid. I actually introduced your music to a young east African woman earlier today, driving her home after celebrating Eid, driving for Lyft. Minnesota's Muslim community is wonderful, so many great people, and you are a great bridge or ambassador between them and the larger community of Minneapolis. I love you for many songs, Good Lord, Freedom Ain't Free, Uncle Sam Goddamn, those 3 probably rank among my favorite hiphop songs ever, judged by how many times I've listened to them. Never Learn? I grew up partially south Minneapolis and partly at a Hindu temple in New Mexico, so seeing you do that video in Abiquiu blew my mind, to say nothing of the song itself. "How you gon hate me for being what God made me?" I love that lyrics so very much. Your music and your path is also beautiful and inspirational. Honestly, I've listened to you more than Slug now for years. Yeah, I'll definitely check out your conversation with Cornel West soon, would have already watched it had I realized it was out there. God bless.

I know im a bit behind the 8 ball on this, but i just seen this podcast. I first heard an atmosphere song when i was in 6th grade, i think it was guns and ciggarettes. And ever since then the whole Ryhmesayers crew and related artists became a permenant fixture in my life. When i began getting in trouble in school, my mother knew i liked your music so much that she made a deal that if i kept out of trouble and past my classes that she would buy me a Rhymesayers CD every two weeks. so before long i had shadows on the sun, the truth is here, us , and the whole atmosphere disocgraphy, this all cumlinated in 2011 when i finally got to see you all in concert at Soundset. it was one of the most impactful expirences of my life. Im from a small town in sourthen minnesota, and your music has ment so much to me over the years, I always gravitate back to it. you guys are just the greatest and i feel incredibly blessed to have grown up during your prime time. your music has changed lives. thank you!

It's humbling and inspiring to listen to two of my favorite artists discuss their relationship to each other and the world around them in such a raw manner. On KZbin somehow I stumbled into Atmosphere and even though I didn’t speak or understand English well I could hear and feel everything the music was about ; I was blown away by the openness and my first encounter was “when life gives you lemons, paint that shit gold” .. I couldn’t skip a song. I loved the beats, loved the lyrics, the content - the album is on my TOP 10 best albums of all times. Anyways, I’m loosing track, I say all that to say thank you Brother Ali. I appreciate the encouragement and the criticism. The criticism is the harder pill to swallow, may take some time sometimes but it's necessary. Just reaping what we sow. It's all appreciated. Be direct. The defensiveness comes and goes. Sometimes it's justified. Rumors aren't always true. So the initial reaction may not be all that grateful but with time it gets easier to deal with.

Thank you for this wonderful podcast. You are healers. Just as both of you have released songs that have had a profound effect on my life(Forest Whittaker, Dreamer), there are quotes from just this episode alone that I would do well to carry with me as I progress further into this time of personal healing and growth. For this, thank you. One of the questions an audience member asked left me very annoyed at first. I, for one, know I've made mistakes and said things in the past that have seriously hurt people. It has brought me great pain reflecting on this- but there is no way but to move forward and make better choices. Through this we better ourselves and learn that our mistakes do NOT define us. So yes, I find myself annoyed when people bring up the past mistakes of others, especially when it's evident that significant growth has been made. But larger than that- I think the gracefulness of how you both admitted your mistakes, listened to and communicated how you were feeling to the other side, and demonstrated that you wish to actively mend any harm that may have been done... ...that's some of the hardest sh*t I've seen any rapper do EVER. The person in question absolutely has the right to feel the way that they do and I see this now. You may not agree with this person but you lend them an ear and your time. It would bring me great joy to see others approach interactions with others with the same maturity that you two exemplify. So again, thanks. p.s. I'm visiting my father this week and it just so happens that he lives 10 minutes away from the very place Oudimentary is based. So I know where I'll be paying a visit (:

Fuck it I'm just gonna say it Slug in my opinion is the Goat all these years he's been consistent with his music & has put out great content.

There’s certainly a case to be made. The only mark against him is impact on hip-hop culture as a hole, but that’s not his fault. Just a category he was placed in.

@@BrotherAli_Travelers indie rap is not the category that's for sure, whatever that's means... I remember getting into Rhymesayers tough. I was working at the house of blues San Diego, in 2005 I've been to a grip of concerts but in my opinion slug is the best at it by far, but Brother Ali ooohwee!! my respects Brother Ali although I've never been to any of your concerts I feel like I know on a spiritual level. Man the things you say it's like you vicariously live through me... God bless
