The Republic of Ireland used to trade 60% with the UK prior to EU now trade is a mere 12% - 14% The EU is DEFINITELY beneficial for the Irish people FACT.

It would be nice if Mr Sammy Wilson looked at Mairead McGuinness in a nice way. It would be very beneficial and this comes from someone who promotes integration in Northern Ireland and knocking peace walls in Belfast and Derry

And Ireland is not in Schengen and in that sense a border always existed.Except that a common travel area,effectively border free,existed since the 1922 treaty.Simpe eh?.Or not so as the North and south already run different currencies,duties , etc which automatically means a healthy smuggling trade across that border.As to the UK collapsing ,well no one seems to be calling the border poll,least of all the Irish government and the SNP have backed away from Indy ref2,so again who knows? A post EU future might lead to the UK splitting politicaly Though the UK was a union between the Kingdoms of Scotland and England ,the political union was a hundred years after that.Again not so clear.Only time will tell,it`s upto the people who live there.

Mairead and Sammy will find out over the years that there will be a border suited to the EU or GB if it suits them...there cannot be a red line down the sea ...unionists have been let down and the Irish rep has been let down in the past (Home Rule/Stormont and fish!) Sammy will find if NI exports are excluded from ROI British will not help. Ms MG does not realize GB voted to go . The UK probably does not give a hoot about the farmers. Sammy is right about sales to GB... they are hugely important. Overall I think Sammy has a good deal going for his argument...but MG is probably correct about the farmers!
