I've had scooters for close to 40 years, I like these electric scooters but the silent engine worries me from a safety angle, people often hear you before they see you.

Noise can be added and charging is from a normal household socket, you can have a reserve battery to give you 60 mile range, but then ask yourself , realistically how far is each journey you make before you reach another charging point namely another standard household socket ? Scooters was originally made for short hops around about the area we live and work and that is pretty much what the rest of the world use's them for, it's only us Brits that feel the need to undertake monumental journeys on them. I have my scooter to runabout town and go to work on, to avoid heavy traffic and have free easy parking and now also to enter emission and congestion zones without paying the charges this is 90 % of the travelling I regularly do . My car is for the weekly shop and for little excursions out of town , if I want to go to Manchester or Scotland I'll get the train and further afield I'll go by plane. If you could get to try one these electric converted scooters they are fast off the mark and that is handy for getting away at a set of lights while riding in town , there are also bigger motors available for more top end speed. Technology is fast moving and these new power packed fuel cells are already upon us giving four times the range of lithium Ion batteries , the Retrospective conversions are ready and set up to house whatever power source comes along.

German scooter riders , spanish riders , french riders , in fact lots of european scooter clubs undertake monumental journeys on these iconic scooters , travelling to events across europe organised by lambretta and vespa clubs alike , a 60mile range is nothing , we cherish our scooters and most are used for rally events only and not nipping up the shops to get a loaf , i imagin that when the petrol 2t engine fizzels out that it will kill off the national and international scooter rally scene which is ashame. These electric versions will not replace the traditional 2t for the majority of owners who enjoy the freedom of travelling vast distances to meet up with like minded scooterists at organised events across the UK and Europe

Most classic scoots are on historic taxation class anyway so are able to go in any zones without issue. Also there is a world outside of london. Im sure your conversions are top notch and when the battery tech is improved,will have the younger kids living it,as they will know little else, but the soul of the machine itself has been lost. Character less nostalgic shells. I realise that electric motors are reliable,quick and clean etc,and the future, but its not always about that is it?

Patrick Birke I’m afraid my two stroke affliction runs very deep.
I’d like to see more video of the scooter, engine, electrics etc. But thanks anyway.

Hey you! I have a PX200 '93, and I'd like to convert it to electric. Where can i find the kit, electric engine and battery to place it in the place of the fuel tank?

One way to stick two fingers up to our lovely mayor but the £££ and the range have to be improved massively.
@midge2255 жыл бұрын
Not impressed , no noise for a start , people will hear you before they see you on a traditional vespa/lambretta as you know , with no engine or exhaust noise on these leccy conversions it makes them more dangerous. Not much range either , you cant just stop and recharge like nipping to a garage for petrol , few and far between charging points is not good if you run out of charge, its a long push home if that happens. I would rather not have one at all im afraid and after 36yrs of owning and riding both vespa and lambretta, going on rallys and general ride outs i think someone needs to come up with a better battery power than whats in that vespa

Assuming you started on 100% battery, you used 80% in 9 miles??? So you can't even ride from Walthamstow into central London and back again. What they are doing is a great idea but currently useless. Unless you started on 25% battery of course
@ScooterLabUK5 жыл бұрын
Steve Mason Yes it’s 9.5 miles to the Tate Modern. The video doesn’t show the whole ride. It was 24 miles from 92% battery. These aren’t made for distance. Even the new Ford Transit hybrid can only do 30 miles on battery. It’ll be the next tech that will change things rather than lithium-ion

It’s interest ing but the price is still far to high 3500 for a kit wow I’d like to electrify my suzuki cs50 the frame is just like the Vespa. Wheel size ok as well but so it’s doable by the look of it but not at that price shame

With electric conversions it’s the cost of the batteries that make them expensive.

@@briggaskin Yes i too have misgivings about the silent vehicles about to take over the roads. Pedestrians with dodgy eyesight will not hear them before they knock em for six. I however have a plastic chariot with petrol engine done 9000 miles and its not soulless . But it is reliable and its 6 litre tank does 130 miles. That would be a few batteries.

To expensive so no point also distance is rubbish and with no sound makes it more dangerous and that's a no no.
