Moved to north Germany about 8 months ago, it’s funny, here is Schleswig-Holstein the farming community have been spreading slurry for the past weeks. It’s good for me watching these videos and seeing what they are up to and why. Farming here is the same as back in the UK by all accounts.

Figure out your turning radius and space your next pass that far away, or split the field in half so each round you are starting out straight and you don't have to do the back up, start forward wiggle to get lined up again. Watch a plowing match KZbin video over here in Canada - the International Plowing Match, or a corn harvester to see how they skip a space to allow for the turning radius. It's easier on your ground crop too, as your wheels are always rolling, rather than locking up on one side and grinding over the grass. Putting flags on the fence or hedge row to marh your turn or to aim at across the field the first time you space out a field helps too - if having perfectly spaced out and straight rows are that important.

I'm nothing to do with farming, just a fan/interested person, so please excuse my ignorance and if this is a silly question, then please accept my apologies in advance. In this field that you are tanking, i notice a small pond and a big pond. Why would you not have a compost heap from all the waste silage/straw/hay to get "fill dirt" and fill and level these wet areas to make it a little more grass area and easier to mow/tank/bale the field? Thanks for the entertainment, cheers. Chris (originally Hertfordshire, now Apopka (Orlando), Florida). p.s. Come visit us sometime after all this Covid stuff is over.

I don't understand the reasoning behind overlapping like that, it's just applying your nutrients unevenly throughout the field and is almost doubling the distance the tractor and tanker are travelling on, increasing ground compaction. To increase your application rate just spread at the full width and lower your speed. Otherwise though, great video with some excellent shots 👍
@kanarie935 жыл бұрын
as you are overlapping every run you are essentially "doubling" the dose everywhere except the edges, so the uneven distribution is not realy true. Altough the compaction issue still stands indeed, but its a small tank/tractor combi not a 3 axle 40 cubic metre tank ;)
@michealharan5 жыл бұрын
@@kanarie93 That would be true if he were fully overlapping each run, but he isn't. He's leaving more than a full tractor width on each run which receives just one pass as can be clearly seen from the striping in the drone shots - the dark areas have twice the amount of slurry applied. To have an even distribution he would have needed to be driving the centre line of his tractor along the edge of the slurry of the previous run. Depending on tyre sizes the 3 axle 40 cubic metre tank might have even less compaction than a single axle 2500 gallon tank ;)

Hi tom I’m not a farmer but, I am intrigued what your thought are on slurry spreading compared to slurry injection on grass fields? From what I’ve seen on KZbin with spreading apparently there is more chance of run off ( rain dependent etc) where as injecting it into the ground there is less chance. I ask as I feel your vids are informative honest and a first hand experiences on how things work on a farm etc. Just a question I thought of and what application would be best for various land predicaments eg slopes on the field.
@Tomhellyer6 жыл бұрын
Brad Grey depends on land scape, money (injectors are extremely) and don’t always need em.
