As for someone who joined the MLP community not too long ago, it just takes my breath away to listen to these songs. It's a weird feeling of never happened nostalgia - when you listen to such great community's great legacy. As I once said: "feeling of finding archeological monuments of past". Weird but great. So sad I wasn't there when brony culture was at its very glory.
@tkc59802 жыл бұрын
Exactly how I fell, I joined in the middle of 2018. It is truly fascinating to see all this that was made so long ago. I have only experienced the fandom in it's death. The death is very long though as there are still parts that refuse to die. Ponies at dawn is such an example. Though I don't consider myself a full brony anymore I can dafinitely say rhat the show and the creations that sprouted around it had a significant impact on both me and to some degree even broader internet culture.

With all due respect to Yaov, this reimagining of Octavia's Overture is still my favourite MLP:FIM related song, and is actually a very personal song for me as a musician and as someone with BPD amongst other conditions that made me become an outcast amongst the people I care for in my life. Yes, you read that right. This has been my comfort FIM-based song since I was 12, and though I'm now a 23-year-old man struggling with mental illness and no longer in the fandom, I still listen to this song. It hits home just as much as it did when I was a child, and I will always be so thankful for you creating this masterpiece, for it made a man realise he wasn't alone with feeling so gullible and lost in the world. ~We never thought we'd see you again, but the only thing we hear from you is, "You were right, again".~ I desperately need this to be on Spotify so it can be immortalized forever.

This is something I never thought I’d say. I relate to this song. I remember being in the fandom at its highest and as the years go on of course I grew out of it, kind of forgetting it. Then this song popped up on my memories and I thought I’d listen to it cuz it was a fond memory. As I listened to the lyrics I found myself in it. The story behind it is Octavia leaving home to try to achieve her dreams but in the process cutting off all the people who cared about her for the price of success and ultimately finding herself all alone and depressed because of it. I did something similar recently. I finally found the friends that completed me and who loved me for myself and instead of enjoying myself in the moment I focused too far into the future and joined the military leaving behind all my family and friends for something I thought would complete me and make me happy, now I’m here and every night I think about the people I left behind who loved me and I’m lonelier than I’ve ever been in my entire life. While in the process of what I thought would make me happy I abandoned those closest to me and found that it wasn’t worth it in the end. Growing up watching a show about how important friendship is should’ve taught me something, I guess I never learned until now just how much friendship truly is magic.

I love Octavia! I love all songs about her! But this is seriously my new favorite! Even though Octavia's Overture are my favorite songs and remixes, I'm afraid I have trouble understanding the message. It implied to me that Octavia was wrong to pursue her dreams. Or is the message "don't ignore your friends while working on your dream?" Or "don't step on the little people on your way up, you'll need them on your way down?" Maybe someone can explain it to me. :)
@TheMonkeyFarted10 жыл бұрын
I think it is that she wanted to follow her dreams but in doing so she lost who she was in the small town of ponyville. She lost her friends and family for the big town for fame and she realised that she would rather have her friends and family then fame anyday.

@HalflingPony11 жыл бұрын
First of all, I like this. A lot. But, I'm honestly a bit confused as to why you call this a a "cover" of Tombstone's song. Maybe that's what you originally set out to do, but this seems to have morphed into something very distinct. Sure, some of the phrases are lifted from the original (particularly at the beginning, before the vocals start), and it sounds like the underlying chord structure is probably very close, but the melody line is almost entirely different and the only identical lyrics are the ones Tombstone lifted from Ingram's song in "Sweet and Elite". Personally, I'd classify this as an original piece *heavily inspired* by Tombstone's song rather than an actual cover.
@SlyphStorm11 жыл бұрын
That's very true, but honestly I didn't really have any better one-word description for it. I wouldn't really call it a remix, but as you aptly put, it's not quite a cover either. I dunno, help me out, you got a one-word description for what this is?
@HalflingPony11 жыл бұрын
SlyphStorm Good question. Really, it's transformative enough to be considered an original piece despite the clear inspiration. I know this sort of thing has been done in mainstream music before, but after googling around a bit I really can't find a well-defined term for it. If you really insisted on a single-word descriptor, though, I like Taumpy's suggestion of "re-imagining" in this thread on the subject: goo.gl/pQ0WFh

I think I know why I like this song so much. I feel like my path in life has a shot at mirroring Octavia’s. I’m not interested in fame, though I am interested in success and fortune. Then again, perhaps this is what many are after in life, told by family they’re concerned the ideas running in a dreamer’s head are going to result in a major decision where one has chosen wrong. Perhaps it’s only sometimes that the people are proven wrong.
@flyingturret208thecannon52 жыл бұрын
Nay, it looks like it may mirror Vinyl’s life in the song. My friend has gone away, and they may effectively forget about spending time with me, just to call me up years later when I’ve moved on from a relationship meant to last. I don’t want that to happen. If life happens that way, though… we’ll see where it goes, I will try to stay in touch though.

Octavia's Overture is still on of my absolute favorite TLT songs. I simply loved it when it came out. As for your version... the style puts chills in my spine, particularly with that opening. Your voice is excellent, and your lyrics dive in even deeper than the original. It gives me more of an emotional aspect as to what this journey is like. Oh yes,nice idea adding the ending addition from the Ponyville ponies who miss her. Normally TLT surpasses other musicians with his remixes or remakes in my mind, and his originals are untouchable. But in regards to Octavia's Overture, this is without a doubt my favorite version. :)

Man I'm loving your music, and I love seeing Octavia's Overture remixed/covered/etc in such an amazing way.

I'm a bit late but I've been listening to this song for 3 years and I freaking love this. I play the double bass and I appreciate the classical twist! Gives me chills!!

There is one line in this music of which I highly agree with... "Don't sell your dreams so cheap"

I, wow. This is a perfect example of an existing work that takes on a new dimension of 'amazingness' through rework and new creative input. It's still Octavia's Overture, but in a fresh light that's like meeting an old friend after they change their hairstyle (manestyle?) Same wonderful person underneath, but with a fresh, exciting coat. Simply amazing work, SlyphStorm!

This song..........so beautiful...so sad......I'd applaud you sylph.......but your evil, I weep for Octi! Her success comes at such a price. I absolutely love the "I'm the type of pony every pony should know" part, shes saying it to herself just to be strong for her goals. She's so alone in her success. I know that feeling to well. Octi will prove herself, I hope she will be happy.....

You should totally do the same thing with the sister song, "like a spinning record" Even though that probably wouldn't be as epic as this.

I don't know how to describe this. The original was one of my favorite songs done by Tombstone, seeing this I don't know how happy I was! I'm not sure if anyone else did a remix of this song, but if they did, it can't compare to this. Slyphstorm, keep up such amazing work.

Sweet version! While I do like Tombstome's sound more, lyrically this song is well above his. Good job. :)

This is tenfold better then original work's boring lines and broken emphasis.
