This scene reminds me of my 2nd year in med school. 1st year was not bad, but 2nd year kicked my ass with all the pharmacology and pathophysiology we had to learn in such a short time. I literally had to stay in the library until 10 PM every single day studying. At the time I thought it was soul crushing but looking back 20 years later I miss it in some ways.

Whatever problems anyone had in the 80s (including me, i had a lot between being teased at school and then an abusive mother at home), TODAY’S world and issues make them seem like a childhood book. Sometimes, i think if i could go back to that time knowing what i know now about how things would be, i would live through all that pain and unpleasantness again JUST to get away from the crazy world of today.

This movie changed me. Being too serious in your studies. You can have fun studying. I loved the part when Val Kilmer says to William Atherton, " There are many brands of decaffeinated coffee, but they all taste the same."

I saw a video about the director, Martha Coolidge. She originally declined an offer to direct real genius, because the script was just another dumb frat boy movie. Given freedom to change it, she went to cal-tech , i believe and interviewed A bunch of students, to find out what really went on there. Years later , At a showing of RG, real scientists said they chose their careers because of this movie. There are some videos on YT about the popcorn finale. It took months to pop all that popcorn. Nerds are cool, Hmm, who knew?

@@xealit , the best military laser is about 100 kilowatt. It's been estimated that a 1 MW laser turns air into plasma and explodes. As of 2020 there is no solution to the limit. If Chris and Mitch had hired a 4 MW laser in that lab the very air would have turned into high energy plasma with the resulting explosion demolishing the building.

Real Genius was on OTA TV in s hospital, as I came out of a 3-4 day induced coma after freaking brain surgery. I was laughing so hard, a doctor came in to check that I was okay. He laughed when he saw what I was laughing about. Val Kilmer - you are a treasure. I hope you're hanging in here. 🌎 👍😎❤
