SM was founded back in 1995 and they were part of the very beginning of kpop and set many of the patterns of kpop that we take for granted now (H.O.T. being one of the first boy groups ever). So they have been debuting artists ever since and those groups have been a very important part of kpop in every generation until now. SMTown refers to the building/headquarters and to the whole "family" of artists. It is also the name of a concert series where many groups from the company put on big festival-like concerts and they've been doing those big many group concerts since 2008. A lot of the interactions you saw here were from SMTown Live concerts (or waiting rooms). A lot of these clips would make more sense if you were familiar with the people in them/context, yes. But once you are fans of many SM groups, it is such a pleasure to see the various artists interact and do collaborations.

The way this video barely scratched the surface of the different SM artist interactions. SM artists have a lot of cross promotions and just general intergroup friendships. The iconic friendships between Taemin (SHINee) and Kai (EXO), Suho (EXO) and Minho (SHINee), Changmin (TVXQ) and Minho (SHINee), Taeyeon (SNSD) and Key (SHINee), Jonghyun (SHINee) and Yeri (Red Velvet). SHINee and f(x) being literal brother-sister groups, the BoA Only One performances that she does with an idol from almost every bg, and so much more.

SM doesn't just house of idols, they also have DJs, rock banks, orchestras, models, actors, comedians, and athletes. You may not know, but Johnny from NCT and Hyoyeon from Girls Generation (known as DJ Hyo) also have "DJ" activities domestically and abroad which are managed by SM itself.

Great list! But small correction, Red Velvet debuted in 2014. Realisticaly though, I know SM tends not to announce disbandments, but... - F(x) hasn't been active since 2016 and all the members left SM. - The Grace (CSJH) - Haven't been active since 2009 or 10 and everyone except Lina left SM (she only works in musical theater and as a vocal coach I think) - TRAX - haven't been active since 2018 and all the original members left SM.

Then again, we all have to start somewhere. My very first kpop concert was SMTOWN in 2010. I only went to see BoA cuz I was a huge fan. But I did know a little bout the other sm groups. However, I didn't know what smtown was and later found out it was because they were all under the same agency/label. And things just kinda grew from there. I started to attend almost every smtown concert on tour after that. And discovered their bond is really like no other.😍

This is actually an interesting way to get introduced to the many, many and I mean many artists SM has managed over the years, lol. I can't really say any of them are better than others, all of them have rather unique appeals and are really talented. My personal favorites are aespa, SNSD, NCT, TVXQ and SHINee, but, ultimately, all of their music is amazing, imo. Many people here mentioned EXO and Red Velvet, if you're interested in exploring the whole history of SM, I think it's best to go from the 5th generation (thus far that's RIIZE and NCT Wish) to 4th generation (aespa) to 3rd (other NCT subunits, EXO, Red Velvet), then 2nd (SHINee, f(X), Super Junior, SNSD) and 1st (S.E.S., BoA, TVXQ, Milk, Trax, H.O.T.) so as to not get culture shock because K-pop really changes from generation to generation, so, it's best to check out: EXO - Love Shot, Obsession and Monster and Red Velvet - Feel My Rhythm, Bad Boy, Psycho and Power Up, those are sort of fan favorites.

SM is like the home of Kpop legends. Many artists from SM are breaking records in the Kpop world and paving the way for other agencies and groups to expand their music overseas. Honestly, without them, Kpop probably wouldn't be what it is today. Sorry but I said this, most people only know BTS or Blackpink, but they don't know who paved the way for Kpop music abroad like "BoA" (queen of queens of kpop idols) then "TVXQ" "Super Junior" "SNSD /Girls Generation" from SM, "Bigbang from YG", "Rain from JYP". I also admire EXO because they have never had the opportunity to promote abroad other than Japan and China, this is very unfortunate. If SM let them go to other parts of the world, maybe they would be much better known than groups that only people know about. Even so, EXO is as popular as groups that promote abroad. My friend EXO-L in US always complains because exo doesn't have the opportunity to perform there even though other SM groups often do. EXO only attends KCON events (which is rare) but has never held concerts other than Asia, especially Korea, Japan and China (including Hong Kong). Even in my country, which is the location of one of SM's offices, we rarely have the opportunity to watch EXO full members since they debuted. to be honest my country is one of the "biggest consumers of Kpop merchandise". So almost every 2 months there is always a kpop event. Especially for SM artists, it is very easy for us to buy goods because the SM Kwangya Store is in my country. Even SM has an office in my country, and there are legendary singers from my country who are under SM management. So Kpop listeners and fans in my country are already familiar with SM artists. Even my grandmother knows who "Siwon from Super Junior" is hahaha (because they are legends of legends, most countries in Southeast Asia must have heard of Super Junior as the first Kpop artist, followed by BigBang. Even the song "sorry-sorry" from Super Junior has used as a gymnastics song in prison)
