There is actually transformer in SM58 glued in the handle of the mic;-)

The transformer in the SM-58 an Impedance Transformer and does little to give warmth to the sound. The transformer inside the Soyuz Launcher is a Custom Hand Wound Transformer specifically designed to add color and warmth to the sound source. They are very different. So the SM-58 does not have the transformer necessary for the vintage sound.

@@ZPJ_Studio In addition, if you suddenly happen to have a fake SM58, then it will not have any transformer at all

@@mojekh Yes, thank you for the feedback, though not even near of the same effect in terms of warmth as the transformer in the U87. I do love the SM58. They are one of my favorites.

I think only GTZ U87 do the job done.

@@HarvinderSingh-yy8th Why would Lady Gaga use an SM-58 to sing live at the Oscars when she could use any mic? The SM-58 is the king of stage. The U87, arguably the king of studio. All depends on who you ask. Both great, with different applications and price tags. The SM-58 is magic in the studio with a C-Suite C-Vox™ Noise & Ambience Reduction UAD plugin, to eliminate self noise. Awesome vintage tone.
