Yes, this works! Gentle removed the back of the pump with a blunt instrument, pulled the little white fan out and cleared gunk and fur entangled round the fan. Simple put back together and voilà. Thank you.

Thanks, I landed on this searching for SMA-800 submersible pump, intending to buy a new one. I didn't know that the cover came off that easily. I had cleaned gunk out of the vents multiple times but never inside. Next time it stops I will also pull out the impeller (see another comment). I brushed everywhere I could with an old toothbrush. We also had odd problems with it working on one outlet but not another so I was confused about whether the motor was failing. I suspect we get more amps or something depending on the outlet, which can power that tiny fan through the gunk better. Our cat is a sloppy eater and gets a lot of food leftovers into the water fountain.

Wonderful! My pump is a different model, but I applied the same method: helped the little fan to start spinning again. Pump is now working again. Yay!

This helped me with my exact problem! Thank you! I wasn't worried so much about ordering a replacement motor (they're only about $10), but my cat would have been without a functional fountain for a solid 4 days, and that would've been a problem. Thank you again for posting this.

Thank you! My water pump had The blue LED blinking but I didn't knew how to make it start spinning again. I started it without water and without that front cover and it works now! 🎉

It worked! Take the propeller fan out and use Q-Tips and toothpicks to clean out the build up before reassembling.

as others have said this worked thank you, the little "window" that swings open was not enough tp actually get the whole thing clean ,we did not realize the whole side could be removed, we found build up of junk (dirt) just under the propeller now it is working again you just saved us from purchasing a new pump thank you so much. 🙂

Thank you. My fountain is currently working again. I took out the propeller but I didn't see anything wrong with it. It comes out very easily and pops right back in. So it might be worth cleaning occasionally. In any case, all I did was pop it out and pop it back in and it started working.

Hi. So the issue is that motors require more power to actually start than to continue running. There is probably an excess of ✨ something ✨ clogging the "fan" mechanism that is preventing the motor from being able to start properly. It's a similar idea as to how some appliances like older fans will have the order of options "Off, High, Medium, Low."

If you have a low flow but it still runs what I found helps to to have it running and then have the inlet under a faucet to flush it out. My cat likes to wash his paws in the waterer and so over time the pump gets filled with dirt and cat hair. I just did this and got the pump working as new. I have a USB outlet in my kitchen so powering this near the sink is easy. I think I might just do this "power flush" every time I change the water from now on.

My hypothesis is that maybe something similar was happening only the impeller was clogged ans using the tweezers broke the clog.

Hi guys :) If it's a brand new pump, especially try plugging it into a more powerful power source (e.g. an apple/samsung USB wall charger or USB brick) That's what fixed it for me lmao...
