Well done. I just purchased an Insight and your explanations are appreciated. My salesman was thorough, but there is a lot to remember with this automobile. Basic driving is simple, but taking full advantage of all the electronics is more complicated. So far, I couldn't be more happy with my purchase! I look forward to driving my Insight for a long time!

Great review! I'm driving a Crystal Black Pearl 2019 Insight EX and I'm loving it. My last fill was 8.014 gallons which was good for 460 miles or 57.4 mpg and most of my driving is in the mountains of east Tennessee so I'm sure get 60 mpg if I were driving long flat roads which is amazing. The Insight is so much nicer than the 2019 Prius I looked at and cheaper too! You should mention the EV Mode, in EV mode the range isn't very good. I use EV at red lights and drive thru windows and the bank or restaurant. If the battery has a good charge you can use EV when you're stopped all day but if you drive in EV mode you'll only go 1 mile or less. That's an are where the Toyota Prius is a little better and where Honda should make improvements. Also, the cloth material in the Insight is very cheap compared to the 2015 Honda Civic I used to have. You said the Insight has an e-CVT transmission, it doesn't. The Insight doesn't have a transmission, it's direct drive. You have the engine - generator - electric motor and it works great, that's why you don't have a gear range selector for Drive.
@nikonmark378145 жыл бұрын
Nice job, this is a great review and test drive. All reviews seem to start with the Touring model but my research tells me more people drive base or mid range models. You did an excellent job of covering everything. I've been driving a 2019 Insight EX for a few weeks and it's awesome.

Juat got the 2021 last week, now comes with blind monitoring and rear cross warning. Cabin is quiet, ride is smooth, gas milaege is amazing, looks is beutiful. Oozing with tech features, ample.power for my needs. I dont mind the engine sound alternating with the motor, got used to it after 2 days. Love most of all, great price for what it has. Good job Honda!

At least the 2019 Insight looks like a _real_ car, not some science experiment (I kind of detest the overstyled bodywork of the current Toyota Prius).

Nice review. One question. Is that a typical CVT as you described or is there just a single ratio planetary gear and no variable gear ratio transmission? My understanding is the reason why the Honda hybrid system is so efficient is that there is no actual transmission but the ICE mostly generates electricity to drive the electric traction motor to drive the front wheels under most conditions (only mode under 0-50 mph). Under some conditions (about 50 mph and up), a clutch will connect the ICE to directly drive the front wheels.
@Doublebboy1886 жыл бұрын
Sarabeth Wong there is no transmission in this car movement comes strictly from the battery/engine
@jri16786 жыл бұрын
There is no transmission. It simulates a CVT, but Honda is calling it an ECVT.
@donaldmarcato70035 жыл бұрын
I wish they would stop advertising this and the accord hybrid as having CVTs; just tell consumers there’s no transmission because it’s electrically driven and doesn’t need one.

When some leased Insights get returned, I'm very curious how much they will be (used, low mileage) - Thats when I may pounce on this car. Hoping its comfy enough, I commute hours every day. Seeking smooth/quiet ride, comfy seats, great MPG, reliability. In the price range I'm seeking, its gonna be either a used '19 Insight EX, or a used 2015 Lexus ES300H - which is a superior comfy ride but lacking smartphone integration + other tech overall, and not as much MPG.
