Normally I would call these junk but against Russian Military as shoot and scoot provides an awesome amount of mobility especially if equipped with a diesel power pack.
Imagine trying to escape and floor it and the fucking belt destroys itself.

Mobility is usually more useful than armor. No matter how much armor you have, there is always a weapon that gets through it. It can actually be safer to have a vehicle that is mobile enough to just race around the next corner and is open and allows the men to just jump out and take cover when shot at, than an enclosed box of steel that acts like a pressure cooker when hit by a RPG. Of course mines and IEDs are a problem, but such small and light weight cars are less likely to trigger them. Think of them more as a mechanical mule or donkey, that can carry men and material and doesn't run away when the shooting starts, than as an vehicle. I recently saw a interview with an old German Wehrmacht soldier who had been part of the "Afrika Corps" and he talked about how popular their socalled "Kubelwagen" (translated: "Bucket Car") was, because it was so light weight that if it got stuck somewhere, 4 men could just lift it up, one on each corner and carry it back to solid ground. I assume those new things here will be too heavy for that, because they have bigger engines and all those rolling bars, but in principle a simple, reliable, light weight, easy to use vehicle like that is very useful to infantry.

@@44lucas The belts can snap depending on how hard you are driving them but most of the time they can be pretty easy to change depending on the UTV. Most people who do some hard trail riding bring an extra belt with them in case they need to change one on the trail. There's some videos you can find on youtube of people showing how to change them if you want to check them out. Hope this info helps!

That’s funny, I’ve driven a Sportsman and a Ranger for years in deep muddy water and never had a belt problem. Many times on the Sportsman I was pulling a load building a remote cabin. I had water over the front rack on the Sportsman and water up to the seat in the Ranger.

These are alternatives to marching on foot. You don't always have ability or capacity to drop in a 9 ton JLTV anywhere you want, along with all the necessary supporting supplies and equipment. With this, you can drop off a small unit far away from an objective, give them a few of these open-air vehicles and they can close distance very fast with a very low-profile. Plus, if these things get left behind, they're cheap and easy to replace, unlike a $450k JLTV.
