The roots look fantastic on all of those trees. They are just the sort that you see in nature. The first tree looks great in that pot Sid. Exactly the right choice.👍

Thanks, Mick. As you probably know by now, I am leaning towards more natural looking trees these days

Hi Sid I have not had experience with Ash trees you say they develop easily from seed, my trouble with that I don’t think I have enough time left in me to wait for a tree to develop into a reasonable bonsai, I do like the three you are working on, nice size trees, I like your method of pot removal mate, it did the job plus you have a nice rock for future creation. We have had a couple of reasonable days of warmth after that really rotten rain and high winds we had I had 3 small trees blown over smashing the pots, I got caught napping and didn’t drop all the trees onto the ground, a bit annoying but hey ho we carry on, had a few spare pots to repot them and they seem to be ok. All the best my friend make good use of the dry weather my friend.

Thanks Joe. You can just grab a bunch of seeds from an Ash in autumn, plant them and they will mostly sprout. Worth a try I'd say. What have you got to lose? Stay well, my friend.

Your ash trees are amazing - quite like the roots - they have a very sculptured look. You really developed some nice shapes over the years. I started some trees from seed last year so am looking forward to your updates. I do love park trees loaded with free seeds!!

Ash are great for that. Just grab a handful of seed and away you go.

Mist often remove them in winter when dormant but also as and when needed during the spring and early summer. Thanks for commenting.

Very nice are those mate.. Like to see them in leaf... Rowan ash you said, I too have 2 of them, nice and easy to care for as well

Common Ash. But yes, very easy to care for.

I was just doing an ash today. Dug up from the back of a bed where someone had continually simply cut the top off rather than dig it out. Ideal for me to dig out and keep. I was reluctant to be as brutal as you with the buds and just removed the main ones leaving the small ones below. Watching this I might try your method on my other one. People say they aren’t great as bonsai but I like them anyway.

People say lots of trees aren't suitable for bonsai, but I find most trees will respond. Gotvto be a bit patient and not try for absolute perfection and you can make a tree that will make you happy.

Lumpy root wad?
@TaderSamich5 ай бұрын
The tree with the crossing surface root mound. I think it gives it unusual character
@SidsTrees5 ай бұрын
I agree totally. Not an expression I'd heard before. With auto correct you might have been saying something else entirely. Happens to me all the time lol.
@TaderSamich5 ай бұрын
Lol. I think it was just a descriptive fail on my part

I might use it myself. "Lumpy root wad" has a certain ring to it! Perhaps next time someone pulls out of a side road in front of me and I have to brake suddenly.
@Jacob-yb6bv6 ай бұрын
I also have found hardly any vine weevil. Only in a tree I bought this winter but none in my own trees. That’s unusual. Then again, I’m afraid I have kicked the adults on sight for several years….

Gotta be brutal with them if you see them. Squish em I say!
