This is such a beautiful video. I love how the pictures go slowly so that we can really look and understand what is working and how we might apply the principles to our own spaces.

Really lovely selections! The music was beautiful and went perfectly with the photography. And, the rich, melodious voiceover, reading a delightful script, was excellent. Well done; new subscriber here. Thx much!

One word… spiders 🕷️ I love the outdoors couch but I know, I know spiders are on there. 😮 how do you deal with them?

I think the same thing when I see stuff like this. They probably have the money to hire pest control. There are a lot of chemicals (sadly) that get thrown down to treat spiders. Now I am terrified of spiders but I can’t justify killing off ecosystems just for the sake of a nice outdoor room. My children’s play equipment is where giant wolf spiders make their homes and they will run after their little feet! 😮 I periodically spray it off but they just come back. We use regular deck chairs for our outdoor spaces as you can easily survey the chairs and brush off bugs before sitting!

What advice I can give you: 1) look at how the sun goes. This is important not only for the choice of plants but also for where you put your vista point. You don't want to get blinded, or scorched by the sun... 2) It's impossible to make something look good from every angle, but it's quite feasible to find one or a few points where the scenery clicks into place and looks good. When you have a window, you have to work with that frame, but when you put up a place to sit outside, you can choose to some degree your vista point. 3) Most humans feel cozy in somewhat confined spaces, something that offers some semblance of privacy and control. If you have a corner, you might turn it into a 3/4 of a circle and make sure that the opening isn't facing a busy street or some eyesore... When possible, use unusual walls or fences that take your mind away from the fact that this is in the middle of a city. Bonus points for vines covering them. The size of the confined space depends on the user. A cat is happy with a carton and a child with space under a table, but for grown humans, it appears to be roughly 2-3m in diameter. However, this changes when you want to put a table inside. The table should neither feel too big or small for the space. If the table is 1.5m in diameter, then you probably want an enclosed space of 3-4m. 4) Forced perspective and layering. For a small garden, you DON'T want a field of the same plants with all the same height and type. It makes your place look even smaller! On the other hand, if you have enough space, you can take some small trees and put them next to the fence, followed by a smaller shrub and even smaller plants in front hiding the boundary. This makes the trees appear bigger and the area occupied deeper than it actually is. 5) Similarly to light placing a focus on a specific area, you can use flowers, fruits, and nice-smelling plants to guide the attention away from some areas and keep the mind inside the garden. It also makes the garden feel bigger when there's always something new to discover thanks to the different growing seasons for different plants.

Most excellent! Also get flowers which will survive a 2-3 week vacation if dripping water system fails.

@@GreenPasture1 that may be tough depending on where you are. If you don't need to worry about frost, you can bury ceramic pots that slowly water the plants. I use a system connected to tubes sucking in water. It's not enough to never have to water my plants, but instead of drying up in a few summer days, they last an entire week without watering. Adding more ceramic cones would unfortunately cause too much moisture when it gets colder. It's crazy how much the need of plants varies from week to week even indoors.
