Wow this coop seems so practical and love how it was built with the changing needs of the chickens too. The design and aesthetic is fantastic, so much so that I wish you had plans available seeing that you had CAD 3D models already as I’m sure many people including myself would love something like this in our own backyards. I LOVE this! What a great design, so practical for storage and cleaning too. Only the best for these chickens! Loved the shot of them at the end all together
Ingenious! Very therapeutic and aesthetic! You design like a pro and practical! This is the best design I have ever seen! I want to build something like this someday! You can add some woodchip, compost, saw dust, hay or mix with fresh grass or vegetable. This would encourage the chickens to scratch the floor, aerate it and absorb the liquid. You can keep adding it and make the floor thicker. Make sure to add some diatomaceous earth (DE). DE kills the mites and works as calcium to keep the chickens healthy. You can also aerate the floor with a folk to eliminate any smell. It saves you time to clean the floor. It should have no smell at all! By adding a thick layer and only clean it 2-3 a year, you are making a compost. It can be used as a fertilizer immediately everytime when you clean the floor. Thank you for sharing! Keep up the good work!
@galastudio9 Жыл бұрын
Hi really grateful for your constructive input, i do like the thick floor chicken bed approach! i have been using wood chips and hay with coop refresher at the moment, in summer times when it is dryer, there is not much smell, i usually replace the floor every month or 2 and compost it in a bin. winter will be more frequent unfortunately due to the moisture. but i am going to give your method a try i was planning to remove part of the concrete floor to have them have more actual soil to dig, my only worry is rodents would then also be able to reach the coop from below unfortunately : (
@ADAWC Жыл бұрын
@@galastudio9Your floor is fine. No need to remove any concrete. All you need is a pick fork to aerate the layer once in a while. For easy and smooth cleaning, I've seen people add linoleum on the floor to make cleaning fast and smooth. When you keep adding the material, layer maybe 12-18 inches thick. The floor is completely dry and no smell. You can add a tray of sand with a dash of diatomaceous earth for them to play. They will love it! Sand helps their digestive system.
@ADAWC Жыл бұрын
@@galastudio9 by the way, the thick bedding method should eliminate the odor completely. If you want to have a refreshing smell in the coop, you may spray some EM solution (beneficial effective microorganisms). It's easy to make. Just add fruit peels with brown sugar and 5 times the water. Mix well. Cover it in a glass bottle or in a bucket with a cloth or loose lid to let air out. Wait 2 weeks to a month then it can be used. Try to finish it in a year or add more brown sugar to energize it. Any mix of fruit peel is good, especially the very sweet or very sour fruits. Apple, orange, lemon, banana, watermelon and pineapple are excellent choices. Everything will gradually liquidize The EM solution has many uses. The EM spray may also be used at home, laundry, living room and indoor plants. It's edible when diluted and as a serum for the skin. When the solution is ready, before spraying, just add a spoonful of EM with a half gallon of water.

I watched this video of you building your chicken coop. You have lovely chickens and you went to a lot of trouble for your chickens, but can i suggest you give them more room to move around on the ground floor,i feel its too small for them .chickens really need more space if you can't let them roam around the garden , please think about adding on a large run that has a straw or grass base no wire but wire on sides and a roof for protection from rain or sun and a tunnel that connects the coop that they sleep in to the garden run for extra room , please consider also not letting them stand on wire floor it would be hard on there feet , sliding trays that you pull out out to clean and then push back in are the best for keeping them clean, like rabbit hutches have . ❤ bless you i hope you will give this some thought. chickens are very special❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Question: other than aesthetics, is there any advantage of having awnings as walls through out the coop? That's a lot of hinges too so wouldn't you need a lot of locking mechanism to secure the chickens from predators or rodents?
@galastudio9 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. It does have that disadvantage. However the hardware are light duty, so you can get them cost effectively cheap from Amazon. The design idea behind a wall full of operable doors is that make it easier to access, all maintenance features are behind those hinged panels. It also makes the volume of the coop smaller by introducing those smaller panel surfaces
@d.a.tsun5104 Жыл бұрын
@@galastudio9 Thank you for explaining. I love the awnings, just not for chicken coop. I would build something like this for myself. LOL. Like a garden room. You raise chickens in urban area (looks like Bay Area?), so the predator pressure is light. I live in rural acreage in the central valley foothill, and we have foxes and coyotes here. Although... all of my losses were ironically from neighbors' dogs.
