I prefer mid caps 20-60$, easy to borrow, 1 penny spread, more predictable, good range when they are in play, less risk, cheaper commissions if you pay per share..
@DaytradeWarrior4 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with that. To each their own.

Agreed. I like large caps stocks 130-180$ for the exact same reasons you listed. More recognizable patterns, large range, a lot of volume, and lots of news on large companies. Very good catalyst to help shape the direction of which the stock is heading to for the day.

@@PB0Y1834 how do you typically screen for large caps. I use tradeideas to find good pennies, but struggle to find good large caps to trade.

Another amazing video with practical insight. The major problem with small caps is controlling the emotions. They can slam the best of us into a mind freeze state and an account drain hard to recover from. Having said that, large caps are more difficult as they can slowly bleed you, especially with commissions. There is no right answer only because every personality is different! Comfort level is paramount in this process. You want consistency, and to not move TOO FAST! Keep it small no matter what you trade, until you gain consistency. Consistency is everything.
@DaytradeWarrior4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Those are some great points!
@kalebc21344 жыл бұрын
I disagree on this viewpoint simply because 1. Large caps are much more liquid and you don’t get killed by the bid-ask spreads, 2. Large caps aren’t going to dump out on you if a big time seller gets rid of his whole position. 3. They trade more consistently, 4. You can make just as much percentage gains on large caps as small caps if you trade options and options are cheaper than the shares of the large caps in most cases as well so you don’t actually need that much money to trade them. Again this is just my opinion and obviously I respect Ross as his strategy clearly works for him and he has been very successful I just wanted to point out that there are other ways to consider
@alanmartin22214 жыл бұрын
Kaleb, I appreciate your point of view. I have a question for you. Would you use the viewpoint you outlined if you had only a $1,000 cash account, just getting started in trading?
@kalebc21344 жыл бұрын
Alan Martin applemac3 personally I still like this strategy even with a smaller account because you can still hit big percentage gains with less than 1000 on certain large caps. For example, you can usually get contracts for AMD at less than 50 dollars per contract. Say you want to risk 20% of your capital on the trade and you have 1000 dollars, you could buy AMD call or put contracts and make very good percentages during a day, depending on the move it can even get up to 100% or more though usually 15-40% is what you would be aiming for. Another good thing is if you think the contract price is too expensive at a certain strike price, you can always buy a contract at a cheaper strike. Calls and puts have a ton of flexibility

Ross's opinion: 1:35 beginner traders don't have enough money 3:00 small cap tends to move more in terms of the % 4:15 what is large cap? why is low float important? 5:00 looking for imbalance of supply (low) and demand (high). float is supply, catalyst is the reason of demand 8:30 both big cap and small cap needs catalyst, a reason to move My takeaways: small cap: Pros: 1. low cost to enter a trade 2. small cap can have big move pretty fast 3. may only need 1-2 hour per day if you have a full time job Cons: 1. extremely volatile, can go against you very quick 2. need highest standard of risk management big cap: Pros: 1. relatively safer than small cap Cons: 1. larger capital needed 2. move relatively slower 3. move relatively lesser in terms of the % 4. spend more time watching it

It's not true that small cap are more predictable and is possible to day trade large cap stocks with a price per share under $50. For example the DJIA currently has 6 stocks under $50 and the S&P500 has 184 stocks under $50. Is possible to day trade one of those stocks everyday without liquidity issues and even without catalysts. Because small cap move mostly on catalyst but large cap they move everyday. I prefer large cap because avoiding liquidity traps is imperative for me. And growing a $583 account is an amazing marketing idea but doesn't help beginners traders, it gives the wrong idea about day trading and trading in general. PDT rule and margins requirements (for futures) are in place to protect people from themselves. An expert trader can grow a small account but an inexperienced trader can blow up any account ( even above 25K). Knowledge makes the difference, not money. My 2 cents

If you've got a decent cash position ($25k+) and at least 2x leverage, I always recommend to daytrade the large caps. You wont get the wild % swings for a penny stock for example b/c each 0.01 movement is a much greater % than let's say a $50 stock. My ideal stock prices to trade are usually $80-100+ b/c those will move at least $2-3 per day and your goal will be to capture 0.50-$1 per day. That's certainly realistic. People misnterpret that they have to trade stocks that have to move a lot on a percentage basis like over 5-10% per day. While certainly you can make more money trading a more voaltile stock but if you want consistency, stick with the steady large caps which dont move wildly and you can take your steady returns everyday. If capital is tight then you are forced to daytrade the lower priced stocks.

Don't listen to alfred, keep practicing in the sim until it's second nature. Because when you go live it's a lot harder because of not being filled, slippage. That's not even mentioning the emotional part which is half the battle. My suggestion would be to practice in the sim until you are consistent for at least 3 months. Than you go live with small shares sizes once you are consistently green you bump your share size up.

Small caps are extremely dangerous stocks like you say. Especially for beginner traders who are trying out very rudimentary strategies. People can make money on high float large cap stocks. For example, FB moved from 287 a share to 294 today, and further went up to $300 a share. A move like that, is enough to make a beginner $50 in the span of less than an hour. As a beginner, what more could you possibly want?

The point about account size is 100% valid, not too much you can do about that. But small caps are very intimidating for beginners without the proper discipline. Small caps can easily drop 25%-50% in the blink of an eye and if you’re a beginner it’s so easy to be stunned like a deer in headlights holding a the position during the drop. And unlike large caps, the price might not reach the high of where you got in for months. In other words, it’s easier to blow up your account with small caps, especially as a beginner.

Hey Ross, i have a question if you have a moment. Because i think i'm missing something. So i know to set limit orders for all orders, and also to offset them, but when buying orders sometimes you get partially filled even with offset. Which is Ok because at least you get partial fill on the buy, but when selling why would you use a limit instead of a market order. Would it not be taking large risk of a partial sell on a declining stock (even with offset) forcing you to keep some position until the cancel and repeat of another limit order at a lower price? When you go to sell your final position whats the benefit of putting in a limit order? i feel like its just taking an unnecessary chance of getting stuck with the bag for the drop when you could do market order to ensure you get out of the position at least highest price possible. what are your thoughts?

Warrior Trading , but wouldn’t a market order just do that automatically mitigating risk?

What if I have a 60K account to begin are large caps safer because if they go south you could wait and eventually they go back up?

Many successful traders invest in glitz and glamorous lifestyle, but Ross invested in his house and fish pond. Well calculated**👍👍

The bad day for a fish is when you thought you found a good food only to realize that there is hook and line that came with it. It is like a false breakout for a day trader.

Why have some stocks been halting in the first 15 minutes of the market open (bell ring)? Sometimes in the first 30 seconds. This used to never happen.
@DaytradeWarrior4 жыл бұрын
Fernando, those are volatility halts they happens when stocks more up or down too fast.

I’ve been using your simulator and I had to learn how to SEE the volume... sure, the ticker can be scrolling and the level II can be lighting up, but it was still hard to tell what was really happening. So, I tried something... I have two tickers linked to the same level II... one is small in height and near the bottom of my monitor so that I can quickly see the most recent price and time... (I know you can see this on the level II also) and for the second ticker (linked to the same stock), I stretched the height of the ticker window to go from the bottom to the top of my monitors... so the bottom of the big ticker is next to the small ticker. This allows me to see how fast a stock is trading right now.... if the spread in time between the small ticker (most recent trades) and the bottom of the big ticker (past trades the level II doesn’t display any longer) is more than 10 seconds, I won’t even simulate trading it. Obviously you have to know the correct entry and exit, but if that “time spread” is too much- don’t bother! In this way, I can trade a volatile stock for say an hour and see the volume diminish and get out... when the volume slows, the stocks are too unpredictable... for me anyway. I hope this made sense lol 😆

Nice! Level 2 is critical!
@Jack__________4 жыл бұрын
Agreed.... displaying the two ticker windows I believe helps me to see what is happening on the level II more thoroughly because I can see what happened just a few seconds ago where as the level II cycles the info away.

I recently changed my stance on trading because of this view regarding daily movement percentage. I was trading LC for many years and Ross is right I can avg 10% a year but with little daily movement my account grew slowly. Ive switched and incorporated lower float because if its moving up and its harder to short because of brokerage limit...you will make greater profits. Thanks for the vid, Ross I'm one of your new warrior members....and will be chronicling my experience with your service👍🏾

most important thing keep in mind that we trade money not %%%%%% !!! what i mean by that ?? is large cap stocks like fb moves maybe 2% which is 3.50$ which means small cap stock 3.50$ have to move 50% which is a lot !! appl 2% is 5.30$ is that bad ??

Why your buddy Mike is sticking to large cap, and why you don’t convince him to join you in low caps? Maybe he sees something that you don’t? What’s your strong argument on that?
@jasondrake21304 жыл бұрын
I prefer trading large caps because I find they hold trends better, which makes them more predictable. Ultimately I think it depends on the individuals style and mentality.
@DaytradeWarrior4 жыл бұрын
It's all about finding the style that works for you, Mike finds more success with large caps so that is what he sticks to!

Why not trade options or etfs with large cap exposure? This can be done with a small account.

I find more success on small caps, to each their own though.
