if you want to grow onions that your family will eat, grow "Ailsa Graig" or "Kelsae". Dehydrate and powder them. It makes a sweet onion powder.

I love pantry tours but they are especially fun when I know I can shop at the Grocery Outlet like you do. I see things on your shelves that I've bought there in the last little while. I also love canning. Great job on your store😊

You have done an amazing job this summer. I do dtack my jars but they aren't on shelves yet. On their Facebook page, Ball said you could stack 3 high as long as there was something like strong cardboard between the jars (such as a cardboard box. I keep mine in the original boxes or other boxes if I run out. Not as pretty as having them displayed without the box, but it saves space. I put quart on the bottom, then pints, then half pints. I dont double stack quarts but do with pints. After 3 years, no problems.

This is directly from the "National Center for Food Preservation" in the US: If jars are stacked in storage, be careful not to disturb vacuum seals. It would be a good idea to not stack jars too high directly on top of each other; one manufacturer recommends no more than two layers high. It would be best to provide support between the layers as a preventive measure against disturbing the seals on the lower jars. Jars could be placed in boxes to be stacked, or use some type of a firm solid material across the jars as a supportive layer in between them. I use heavy cardboard from big cardboard boxes cut up to fit my shelf when I need to stack. As soon as I don't need to stack I rearrange my jars. Thanks for sharing. It looks good.

Thanks for the tip. I did try cardboard but some of my jars are different sizes and the cardboard didn't lay flat. It's just a couple of the half pints that are stacked. I honestly don't worry about it. I always check everything before we eat it and yes, I rearrange as soon as I can. Thank you for watching 😀

Probably 95% of my pantry food is meat. Beef ... roast, beef stew and ground, plus chili, spaghetti meat sauce and meatballs in broth as well as pasta sauce; pork butt; chicken (lots of chicken LOL); soups . I just pressure canned some corn and Mexican corn this summer, the first time doing any veggie. I also canned pineapple and Mandarin oranges ( water bath). I've only been canning 3 years but it feels so good to know that the food is there ( along with store-bought and some purchased freeze-dried food).

I put a electric pressure canner on my list so that I can stop being scared. I make spaghetti sauce and broths now and freeze them and it is a pain to use them. I can't wait to pressure can all the things. I only buy Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup because my husband wants them when he is sick but that is the only one. I make the twice baked potatoes with cheese and bacon to freeze when I have fresh potatoes that are bigger. They are super tasty!! Great pantry tour and amazing canning!!

Wow!!! Good work Lynn! I think your good too! I would like to try canned carrots but I’m really the only one who likes them cooked and the ones you buys in the store are mushy so I’ve never attempted to can them myself. Everything looks great! Lots of hard work!

Thank you for sharing! I had a terrible gardening season because we got so much rain this year, so most of my home canning came from store bought veggies, but it's still so satisfying to do! I also discovered pressure canning a couple years ago, and I have to say I like it and utilize it much more than water bath canning. I just LOVE having home made, shelf stable meals!

Lynn i have a dark room like that and I tried everything for light. Well someone told me to string white Christmas lights around the ceiling so I tried it. Now if I need extra light I just plug in those Christmas lights in. I know, I know it sounds crazy but it is cheaper than getting a electrition in to put better lights in there. I sure do understand the water issue, I am on a well that is not safe to drink and have been buying water and our Sam's Club 20oz cases of 28 bottles have went up in the last year they went from $3 a case to $5.40 a case and rumor is they are going up to $7 a case. I buy 8 cases a month and 10 gallon jugs of water as well for cooking. I am going water broke. I heard about pumpkin butter, not sure if you can preserve it by canning but thought that was interesting. Pantry is looking amazing. Thanks for sharing Lynn Blessings and Prayers

Beautiful job! That is a lot of jars. Mine are mostly meat and beans, my garden is not very productive yet. Two kids with food sensitivities is quite a challenge! Are you Canadian? If I had shelves like yours, I would use a few bricks (or similar) and boards to make middle shelves - cheap, nonpermanent, adjustable. Stacking is not so bad, especially with smaller jars that get used up quickly, but when I have stacked mine they wobble around in an annoying way - I prefer a smooth surface to push them around on. I think you did a beautiful job with that room.

The worst when they change recipes on products. We had a few happen recently and it is so hard. We made a big deal about the taste tests on things like ketchup and butter as a family to talk about the differences and my son picked out the one he would eat. We have lots of his favorites stocked. People always say he is picky but the nerodiverent brain for sure is linked to specific requests.

@@BucketListHomestead Agreed!! I shouldn't have to tell you their medical history to say when they want their rice and their butter, it isn't because we haven't tried others. I let people say he is picky when I don't want to go into his sensory issues but why should other people care and pass judgement on their choices but do you think that anyone would choose to make their life harder?

You should be proud! I have been pressure canning for over 12 yrs 95% is meat. Water bath canning for also over 12 yrs l.there is nothing like pulling a quick meal of your shelves that isn’t in a can you bought from the store. Today I’m buying hamburger on sale for $2.99lb sadly that is the new sale price..Along with 2-lbs of strawberries for $4.99 to make jam n jelly for my homemade bread, English muffins and bagels for winter..I know you said your doing this for a no spend Jan/Feb but the prices are rising weekly here in the states..although I could go for a long time without buying many things I’m not going to stop adding the rick bottom deals to my food stores especially meat ..I can’t wait for my local store to sell their pork butt for .99lb to can up burria which is a Mexican dish that generally uses beef Chuck but someone told me they use pork..it is so delicious if you like Mexican/spicy food. I agree the canned pork is so tender and delicious I use it sparingly because I could eat it once a week easily..lol

I just turned the canner off. Canned 10 pints of chicken breast. Did I *need more chicken? No. But it was on sale and who knows when prices will get so high that stores will stop carrying it because they can't sell it. As soon as the canner cools and I can get the chicken out, I have a couple of quarts of broth made from the skin and bones. I didn't have any veggie scraps, so just straight chicken broth. 😊
