We got our corn harvested last weekend and it feels so good! There are farms of all different sizes across our nation and they all do things a little differently, it's what makes American agriculture great!

Boy, i love farmin....i just subscribed and i see good farm ideas at work. Livestock and good feed. Raising the family immersed in the farm, very good. Lord bless and thanks for letting us see, learn, and be glad for the examples of good living from you. Peace 🕊

Almost always people running old equipment for the first time forget that the corn they planted is about 30% larger than the maximum size the equipment was designed to handle. So the books are commonly way off in some settings. Great camera quality, btw.

Lovely video, thank you for sharing. My 10 month old son (who likes his combiners!) and I just watched it this morning. We farm in the south of France near the Pyrenees - we would like to try growing corn eventually ourselves.

Good Job I love that your putting in the effort even against the odds. You will do fine every year will have its struggles. I notice the one critic you have has no videos of what he is doing. Anyone who has ever run machinery in the field will tell you, the fixing is half the prosses.

A nice simple system you have going there ,nice looking combine that handles the corn well ,we call it Maize in the UK but have never grown it on my farm .Do you plough all that rubbish in after harvest ?
@rockyknobfarms
@rockyknobfarms 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Keith! We don't, we will leave all the corn stalks and bean stubble as it is to help prevent erosion throughout the winter. Depending on the field we may also graze the corn stalks with sheep or cattle. In the spring we run at least a disc over each field to help create the new seed bed.

I love seeing your John Deere hard at work, but what is the red combine sitting in the yard and does it run
@rockyknobfarms
@rockyknobfarms 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't run. It's the Case IH combine they used to run that is being pulled apart of parts and scrap metal when needed. They're much happier with the John Deere so far.

I love 💓 watching these kind of videos but I have a question, why leave the bottom of the corn stalks?
@rockyknobfarms
@rockyknobfarms 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! They only need to cut the stalk a little below where the corn ears are hanging (for us, the rest of the plant doesn't really matter). You don't want to be too low to the ground so that you have less of a chance of picking up a rock. Rocks can cause a lot of damage. Some farms will then mow the bottom of the stalk off (like we did) and bale it for livestock bedding too

@@504carl that is because the combine don`t have to work with to much of the hard cornplant .

@@rockyknobfarms yes, I agree. Make sure your stripper plates are set proper, and also maybe run your head a bit lower to the ground to get under downed corn. A full ear of corn with kernels on it will never go through the combine and come out with all kernels intact. They are being missed at the head and driven over. Nice video!thanks for the post! Ron. Where are you located? I'm from Minnesota.

They had a red combine they've used for the past few years but it was starting to have a lot of issues. As a general rule they do prefer red to green but it also has to run! 😉

Great job on the video. But you have a lot to learn about corn harvesting. Pro's get excited about finding even a few kernels on the ground and when starting something new as you did they don't travel the whole field before making adjustments. More like a hundred feet at the most.
@rockyknobfarms

You're right but we don't claim to be pro's at anything. This was our first harvest with this machine and there are definitely some kinks to be worked out.
