Thank you, Nick, for supporting the creative individuals who strive to succeed in their craft and livelihoods. Their endeavors are to be applauded and supported, including yours. As a retired decorator, I know pulling ideas, resources and visions together is hard, arduous work. It is awe inspiring when it comes together with the cohesive and pleasing design you intended. That is why your work is admired by so many.

Love this video. I find it interesting you say “how can I make these accessible for more people”, well you can’t. It depends on the person, and their level of budget or even willingness to prioritise their spend on home decor. I personally make many sacrifices to be able to buy a specific item for my home. I would rather save my butt off for ages to be able to buy expensive, high quality and unique items. Other people wouldn’t care so much.. so thanks for sharing more bespoke businesses and making us aware of them.

Nick: the fact that my profession is interior design and I have had my own business since 1972, I have watched you with a close eye. You crack me up! However, your presentation although it moves fast, I find you to be a breath of fresh air. I like things straight up and direct. It hasn’t failed me yet and I don’t think it will. I have built a nice practice and I’m still passionate about my work. So with that said, I do compliment you on the info you are giving your viewers, although, I do question you on several different things. If we were to ever meet, there would be good involved discussions about several things. That would be fun in itself. Carol from California

I appreciate the upfront heads up about that these smaller retailers aren't cheap. I also appreciate the suggestI aon to look at smaller retailers and/ or craftsmen. Generally I try to find a balance between financial responsibilities, craftsmanship and supporting artists. So for example with my everyday dishes I go with a well established company that is known for their quality...... okay my everyday dishes are made by Noritake from their Colorwave collection. The dishes aren't cheap but nor are the over priced for quality stoneware. I will then buy pieces from artists or small retailers to add to our dishes. Full disclosure I have a friends who are potters and I tend to buy from them. So I will buy unique bowls for fruit or bread just to add something different and special to my otherwise run of the mill dishes. We have a variety of mugs, jars and a variety sizes of bowels to add diversity to our dishware. I would also suggest checking out art prints from independent artists. Not everyone can afford an original but a good art print is more affordable while still supporting the artists. Check out near by festivals and even local colleges. Occasionally colleges will have art sales from their art department.

For inspiration,I love going to this high-end home decor boutique where I live. One concept I was able to incorporate in my decor is a special magnifying glass piece for a table top vignette I put together at about 1/10 the price of theirs. But my vignette still looks ultra classy with its "mug rug." And I have a peace about not throwing out outlandish prices to get me there.

Nice choices Nick. Hey, you should go to LA because it's really ABSOLUTELY NOT a strip mall. There are many different neighborhoods all with their own character. Of course, where the furniture manufacturers are, may be in the industrial part of the city, which may indeed look like a strip mall. However, I assure you there are many interesting and lovely parts of Los Angeles. It is truly an eclectic place. I lived there for 15 years and I could not see it all, that's how big it is. I actually really enjoyed living there - except for the traffic - and miss it very much.

I think buying solid hard wood furniture for a bnb is actually a really smart option. Like any dents can be sanded out, and as the trends change it has the potential to be restained or painted to readjust as opposed to just looking broken and needing replacing. Even if a hardwood piece isn't purchased new there's lots of second hand options out there that are really affordable.

Thank you very much for your great work in introducing these smaller craft businesses. Beautiful things are made there and they aren't that much more expensive when you consider the work that goes into it and how it also affects the look. Besides, it is really difficult to find these beautiful products and it takes a lot of time, if we didn't have you ❤ It would be a good idea if you brought these smaller manufacturers together to create a home platform for their home-made beautiful creations (not made in China). You can probably think of a good name for the platform as creatively committed as you are. You are a sunshine sent from the universe of good taste and creativity. All the best ❤️

Great video as always! Regarding LA - you should definitely give it a visit. The stores work with pieces where the scale seems insane - because of the large homes in LA. Always super interesting things for the eye - and I've found the stores always very welcoming, even when I am obviously a Looky Lou. Blackman Cruz and Just One Eye are but two super interesting stores, and the whole Culver City scene has quite a lot worth dropping in on. Even Ron Sherman (the old Fred Segal) has an ever changing inteior that seems to get rebuilt every few years. LA stores sometimes pride themselves as being quite non-descript from the outsite - I think its that whole Hollywood behind the scenes. But there is good stuff there!

In terms of reproduction companies, I really like SwivelUK. I got a reproduction La Chaise from them in matte eggshell and walnut wood - they offer much more variety than Vitra, and at least with this piece, I don’t think there are differences in quality. Unfortunately, they don’t ship to the EU anymore due to legal reasons and Brexit.

I understand the idea behind modern organic style, but sometimes I feel like some of these vintage vases and distressed bowls look out of place in modern setting. It's like saying - look, I travelled to Italy and I brought this vase, but not really. And most definitely there will be lots of dupes that will try to recreate the style, but will end up looking like those distressed farmhouse signs.

I live in LA and am an architecture buff. If one is willing to open their mind to certain architects like FLW/Neutra/Schindler etc, this city is a design destination. It’s everywhere and the city is getting better at understanding that and trying to preserve this legacy here. Then take a drive out to nearby Palm Springs and your mind will be blown. I’ve been to Toronto a few times and it’s lovely too, friends live in a loft downtown. Love Vancouver too. I’ll take LA though.

Fair warning, but if they were trying to pass off mass produced crap as authentically old, I think a bunch of people would be sounding the bell. I don't think they're trying to be highly valuable antique dealers, with like actual appraisals, things you'd insure. Rather, recycled pieces from a bygone era. Trust me, those of us well versed in old shit know the difference when we hold it.

"LA is a great big freeway Put a hundred down and buy a car." BUT...I have heard that downtown LA is interesting. :) I like adobe-look buildings but the upkeep can be difficult if they weren't built or maintained correctly. They were a fashion trend in the Roaring Twenties into the 1930s around the US, whether because of Arts and Craft or the Golden Age of Hollywood, I don't know. I also like wrought iron, either SW or New Orleans. I wonder what you would find in a trip to LA, perhaps even Pueblo or Spanish Revival Style, to show us. I watched the makeover by Lone Fox hunting for ceiling and wall lighting fixtures.
