Lovely video of my hometown guys 🙌 so glad you enjoyed it, even in the dead of winter. There are actually four beaches. The Ladies, Mens, Nuns and the Long Strand. When the church ruled the country women and children had to go to the Ladies, Men to the Men’s and Nuns use the Nuns Beach which is where the Virgin Rock is - these days due to cliff erosion you need to climb down there using the rope, and you have to get off the beach before the tide comes back in.

Thanks for sharing this Aisling 👏🤩. We tend to skip sharing the historical content in our travel videos since most folks cover that, but SUPER helpful when it's added in the comments like this! Climbing down to Nuns Beach via that rope sounds like quite a workout 🤣, no wonder we never saw anyone on that beach even when the tide was low 🙈. So glad you enjoyed our video, means a ton ❤️.

A little story: That's Og's castle to the locals, after William Og Bunyan who was caretaker until the lands were confiscated for rebellion. Before I travelled to Ireland to play the links at Ballybunion (among other courses) on a southwest Ireland trip, I was researching the area and put a random picture of the castle I found online on my office desktop for inspiration through the days preceding. I didn't know the castle was in Ballybunion, I just liked the picture. After a sleep deprived flight into Shannon, we proceeded to make the trip to Ballybunion, stopping at the cliffs and sightseeing down the coast and across the ferry. Driving on the left side with zero sleep for 24 hours at this point was a bit of a challenge, and I hit a curbstone on the way into Ballybunion and dented the rim of the tire on the rental. While I waited for AAA my ex-wife (we travel together) walked into town to get a room for some dinner and SLEEP. When I awoke at Bernie's the next morning, I looked out the window at mothers walking their children to school in a beautiful little seaside town and there by the sea was the picture from my desktop - Og's Castle. That first bit of magic set the tone for the entire trip.

Enjoyed the video’s of Kinsale & Ballybunion. I was surprised you followed the GPS for the drive , ideally you should have went via Killarney . You captured the essence of both towns, especially the on / off seasonality of Ballybunion , in the summer it is totally jointed & off season it is a ghost town. I live in Kinsale, so I am haunted. Interesting that you were driving a Toyota RAV4 plug-in. As you travel around and rent different cars, you could create car review video’s. Another oddity I noticed: your rental car from Dublin had Northern Ireland licence plates , I did not realise it was possible to do this as the UK is outside the EU … living & learning everyday 😂

My wife and daughter -- Americans with Irish/EU citizenship -- lived in Listowel for a year, (had to move to Cork City/Cobh to find work). Ballybunion is nice, yes. There's a nice jungle-jim it's over to the right. For kids looking over the cliff. You might see a seal sometime (live or dead, [sorry to say]).

It has actually grown in size since we were there, only remember a handful of shops, none of the lodges on the beach nor any of the caravans!? Definitely recall the rock where the sea was crashing through on that day! I recall Galway Bay, Bunratty castle, Limerick, a wonderful cruise along the Shannon river, oh and the fabulous Jetland ballroom just outside Limerick city-if I could live my life over I would travel as you two are-marvellous idea!! I hope you get to Englands amazing Lake District, also North & South Wales, so many stunning places across Great Britain, infact across the world, we are very blessed.

Hiii Sarah 👋. Okay, it IS Jason here answering, but that's because (for once) I can answer this question.... Whatever shampoo/conditioner we can find 🤣🙈. I think at this point, 3 months in, Caroline has tried 3-4 different types of hair products because you can't find the same ones everywhere and we can't carry a large amount of liquids as we travel 😬. So, there isn't ONE type, it's just hit or miss and I think in Ballybunion she found a good one! Will pass along the compliment AND assume you meant to say my hair looked luxurious and wonderful too 😘😅.

Awesome travel log! Looking forward to watching your adventure throughout the year. Next location…hmm…Rothenburg ob derTauber, Germany? Out of curiosity and realizing the time of season may change your answer, how far out are you booking your Air B&Bs and and are you finding any availability issues?
@WanderingAimfully2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again! Good guess on Germany 👀 we shall see! Great question on the Airbnb bookings. Originally, we wanted to be 3-6 months ahead of schedule, but we're finding the planning/booking/deciding is SO mentally taxing that we had to slow way down on that. Right now, we have stuff booked about 1-1.5 months ahead of time and that's it. Haven't had trouble finding great spots yet, but we know the summer gets suuuuuper busy here in Europe (plus this summer might be extra busy with all restrictions lifted). We're going to try to get June - September booked in the next few weeks to get back ahead if we can.

Jason, one more question, how is the Peak Design travel tripod? Is it living up to expectations? Worth the price tag? Any other tech items you have found better than expected or things you wish you brought? Thanks. Very nice filming and editing.
@WanderingAimfully2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, Jared! 🥰 The Peak Design travel tripod is worth every penny for a few reasons: The compact packing ability, how lightweight it is, and the versatility it allows very quickly. I've owned 20+ tripods over the past 10 years and the Peak Design has been the best overall, hands-down. It's pricey FOR SURE, but it does a wonderful job. I'm filming every single clip you see on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it's performing really well! I brought an Insta360go2 action cam and haven't used it once (luckily it's super small, so it's not a big deal). We record all audio using the RODE Wireless Go 2's and those have worked out swimmingly. Basically, all the stuff we link in the description is the stuff we use the most. Might make a video on our travel filming/podcasting kit soon if that would be of interest? 😊
@jaredthompson35842 жыл бұрын
Would love to see a video on your travel filming and podcast kit. Put me down for very interested. You may have me talked into the Peak Design tripod. It’s that price that causes pause, but it looks to be so light and compact. Also, thanks for mentioning your audio solution. I have been researching the rode wireless go 2’s as well, they look great. Hoping the range on them is good. Thanks for getting back with me on the tripod!
