‘In 1971, Schumacher was received into the Catholic Church. He read Leo XIII’s Rerum Novarum (1891) and Pius XI’s Quadragesimo Anno (1931) and was astonished at the insight that the social teaching of the Church had to offer….Subsidiary is the essence of Church social teaching….A requiem Mass was celebrated for him at Westminster Cathedral, London in 1977…..His conversion to Catholicism was seemingly lost amidst the laudatory valedictions’ Joseph Pearce.

Re cathedral - labour was cheap. Not cheap now compared to overall budget - therefore decrease material cost needed.

@@fvckenradical It is actually just a questioning, its doesnt mean that we shouldnt use portland cement, but why to use it. Why use it just to build more things to produce it even more. Schumacher is just wondering about a world in that every production has meaning by itself.
