Hi Martin, it has helped, but the bulk of the material and my lack of skill, means it's not quite up to the standards of the original, but it's only a short term measure.

Sorry for the delay in reply, I haven't been looking at the comments for a couple of weeks, the stool isn't old, we bought it about 20 years ago from a haberdashery shop in Kidderminster, but the covering had faded when it was in the conservatory.
