Small Soldiers is a classic. I still own the Small Soldiers: Top Secret Dossier: From the Files of Irwin Wayfair book and I've owned it since 1999. Butch Meathook and Nick Nitro are my favourite characters.

This isn't the actual commercial that "tripped" me out when I was 7 years old, but, I remember being confused at the end of a commercial when I saw the ugly gargoyle-like creature knock down and "defeat" the soldier. I hadn't seen the movie yet and I thought the army characters were the "good guys" and the gargoyle-things were the bad guys. I had grown so accustomed to always seeing the good guys win (in tv shows and movies) that I was left perplexed when (who I thought were) the good guys had lost and they ended the commercial like that.

BURGER🍔KING agreed to market the 📽movie with their kids meal, before it was given a PG-13 rating. But the movie was released soon after an Oregon teenager was named Kip Kinkel killed his own parents, then went a horrible bloody shooting 🔫 rampage at Thurston High School in Springfield, Illinois killing only 2 ☠students and wounded 25. $o the Kip Killigan action figure was not sold in Oregon.

The marketing for the movie was known for being pretty mishandled.

Quite the contrary, the marketing was brilliant, setting you up to like the "bad guys" because of their appearance, when the actual good guys are ugly. It was one of the morals of the movie. Oh, that and the fact that Stan Winston Studios created the coolest action figures for the Commandos... They knew the Commandos would sell 🤣
