Seems that lately there have been quite a few nice surprises in the speaker world that are on the "somewhat affordable" side of things. I've LOVED seeing this and these reviews. My Polk Reserve R600s just showed up today. I didn't think I needed the R700 due to the smaller size of my room (although I am sure I would have loved them!). I am AMAZED so far at how they sound and am like a kid on Christmas morning. The R600 is definitely big enough for me! Thank you for all the work you put into these reviews and helping us all find what will make us happy with the sound of OUR systems. I'm happy now. ;-) I'd be willing to bet that most of the 'hater' comments you get are from people that have paid WAY more for their systems (not that there's anything wrong with that) and just can't understand how someone can be happy for less money. lol. Thanks again for all you both do. LOVE the channel!

Kristi and Andrew, I really enjoyed the discussion over room comparisons between the old house and new house. Thanks! You'll never hear me criticize your room for listening not being 100% perfect as my house's listening areas is embarrassingly imperfect with the wife's salt water tanks humming away. But it's home for us...so that's good enough for me! Doesn't it seem as if in the last couple years, hifi audio has been getting more and more affordable? I haven't been in the hobby that long but everyone, including the dealer I bought my speakers from is saying how affordable really high end sound is becoming. My dealer specifically said he's worried he's gonna have trouble selling more expensive stuff specifically because of how good a lot these new entry level lines are.

I started out in DIY 10 years ago because I wanted to get high level speakers at a price I could afford. I think unless I got really nice DIY gear and design, buying now makes more sense for me for under $5k. Around $5k DIY you can get very high level gear from the same companies that build equipment for HiFi companies like Scan Speak and SEAS.

@@andrewrobinsonreviews what I'm finding, as someone starting out after a long time away, is that speakers are coming down in price and getting better for the money, but it's not necessarily the case for the amplifiers needed to get the best out of them, which costs more than the speaker more often. It's why I'm strongly considering a pair of kef ls50 wireless used, for about £700/£800. No way could I match that sound quality buying an amp and passive speakers for that money.

Dude, you have to get the CSS Audio Torri speaker kit for comparison! The kit is $275 bucks and they are really something. I know they are playing into the 30s on music. When I demo these things, people have their mind blown by how good they sound, and then something in the 30-40 hertz range flows in. Everyone laughs and asks where the sub is hidden. Every time I play these things I can’t believe my ears. No way can a tiny bookshelf speaker sound this good!

stock crossover ?

Yup, just the cheap stock crossover. When I build the Criton 1TDX I’m going to use the good stuff.

I hadn’t heard of this brand of speaker before, but they do look nice. I think they should expand on the range of colours. I bet they would look good in midnight blue.

You guys are doing something right with these videos. My wife even sits through them and she doesn't even get the fascination with HiFi 🙂.
@spencerharvey33292 жыл бұрын
My question is since they are 55 Hz and up it’s more of a low end frequency speaker but they look so good and they also handle 150 W per channel maximum it’s possible you could use them for DTSX and THX what’s neat about these speakers is it reminds me of the sonance cinema select LCR and you can make multi channel systems from 2.1 2.2 you can add to however many channels even if you wanted 13.2 surround DTSX The possibilities are endless with something like this and I like the colors I would probably get the blue ones

at the moment the s2 model ist 3 times more expensive - is it worth it?
@MrOliver14449 ай бұрын
I reckon with the speakerbox 5 S2 (easy to drive), the wiim amp and the REL Acoustics Tzero MKIII (subwoofer). That would be a fantastic sound for 1250 pounds.
@jonuiuc2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if Pro-Ject makes these themselves in their own factory or if they are doing the drivers etc OEM from somewhere. I figure they probably do the box themselves at the least, since they are real proud of making all the turntables from raw material to final product.

Which Center Channel Speaker would go well with ProJect Speaker Box 5 S2?
@udp10732 жыл бұрын
Pro-Ject just released an "all on one" system with the very same turntable, the very same speakers and one of their mid range integrated for 2grand.. it is so tempting.. on the other hand: do you think such a speaker will behave well on a desk, not too far (let say one or two feet at most) from the end wall?

I would love to see what parts are inside the S2. They probably built it for around $300-$400 if that much or they put the best parts in it and decided to forgo the profit on this model to boost the name. I just saw a video of the crossover, they did not use the best parts and the tweeter is not what an $800 speaker should have but they must have done a great job on the engineering.

I recon there's a hefty markup or maybe import tax in the US because it cost €350 at my local dealer.

How do they compare to the Focal 806
@andrewrobinsonreviews2 жыл бұрын
Focal will have a little more bass and seem lighter in the midrange as a result; likely sound a little brighter than these.
