As another small craft business owner, I appreciate your insights here. (We don't make stationary, but a lot of the concepts are still relevant.) Pricing gets particularly tricky when there aren't many, if any, direct competitors making something similar. It is both boon and curse. Having looked at printers recently with an eye towards expanding some of our product lines, it really seems like to get a color laser printer that will print at the same quality and fidelity as an inkjet photo printer, you have to spend... an order of magnitude more on them, so I was surprised to see this as one of your items.

@erin.anderson A laser printer is a big expense at first, but if you find the right one, in the long run it could work out cheaper than inkjet.

I LOVE printing and my HP Eco smart tank, which takes long lasting bottles of ink, but I also have a black laser printer which I need to print items for hot foiling. I have a back up HP printer that takes cartridges, but as you say, the HP ink cartridges are extortionate and use up very quickly. The generic inks I tried did not have such vibrant colours, but maybe I will try again. I sometimes dream of an A3 printer!
