Before I recently moved: not 5 minutes from my house, a heavily pregnant mother of 5 (unborn was No 6) was murdered by her ex husband wielding a crossbow, in front of all the kids. 2 or 3 of them were his, she remarried, and the paramedics successfully delivered the baby from the mother's corpse. Still with the crossbow bolt just inches from her stomach, embedded in her. Every angle that I look at this is beyond tragic. Half the kids witnessed their dad kill their mother. The other half saw their siblings' father murder her. The current husband... I just have no comprehension.

Not a scandal but def a small town story that sounds fake: Dude I went to high school with (same dude my high school girlfriend took up with after I went away to college) years later, as an adult, broke into a bait store with a friend of his. In the dead of night. To steal bait. Cops tailed them as they made their escape. Not a high speed chase, but a pursuit. Well these guys whipped around a corner and up the driveway where one of them lived. Opened the garage door with the remote. Got inside and got the door closed before the cops made that turn. The cops pulled onto the street to see it deserted. They stopped and were just sitting there wondering what their next move should be when they noticed an empty beer can rolling down a driveway. The can apparently fell out of the car as the criminal masterminds were getting out. That's how they got caught.

The mistaken marijuana story. I have one kinda similar but I actually grew 7 small plants. The DNR found the plants. All of them and as for personal use only. I also had a obvious vegetable garden with a 250 gallon water tank. So they were convinced I had a field somewhere. The state spent $150,000 dollars to only find what they already found. 2 helicopters,30 law enforcement and probably about 12 ATVS. When they finally notified the sheriffs department . After they realized no field existed. The sheriffs department got the blame for the waste of money. When it was the DNR and state drug enforcement. Even though the sheriffs department said they could have said I wouldn’t grow for profit, because I was basically a hermit. Ironically the state spends less on pills, heroin, meth and cocaine combined. Fair to say I broke the law but people should pay attention to how tax dollars are spent on drug enforcement.

It was discovered later that he was well known and had gone to the store to purchase a color tv for the family that he had saved up money for. When the Police investigated they found that the survivor, who's wife has been killed was living with the wife of one of the victims and raising their children together. It was eventually found out that they had been having an affair and that he planned the fake robbery/murder so that he and her could be together after he inherited the family business from his dead wife.

I'm not from a small village myself, but I know someone from near Middlesbrough in the north of England. She told me there was a private medical practice near her home. Doctors working there effectively got promotions for having a strong track record of operations under their belt. One doctor working there eventually went to prison. He would often see female patients and wrongfully diagnose them with breast cancer, giving him the excuse to perform multiple mastectomies on perfectly healthy breasts. Approximately fourteen women living in the area had their breasts removed for no good reason. He was eventually caught when one such victim had a family member who was qualified to check her for cancer, which wasn't there. Secondly, there was a doctor who was known to "sign" his patients by carving his name into their organs while operating on them. He was found out when a guy moved out of that town, and his new doctor found something odd on his X-Ray. If anything, incidents like this make you think. Here in the UK there have been strong suggestions that the conservative government are planning to sell off our public health system in favour of national private healthcare, which effectively undermines the efforts of medical workers and prices an entire demographic out of the health market. What could go wrong?...

But I do remember one person on my bus was one of the victims, and lost their house and belongings. Oh, also a very kind bus driver was killed over winning cash at a casino in 8th grade. I had that Busdriver when I was little. He was kind, and always gave me candy and treats. Though he was strict when he needed to be, so I didn't like him at the time. Not really a scandal as much as sad since it was pretty straight forward. My senior year of high school, a classmate hit a beloved elementary teacher with her car. The teacher was married to one of the high school teachers who had been on leave from teaching during the time due to a commitment that's unrelated to the story, but had him out of the area when it happened. The high school teacher was scheduled to be back shortly after the incident but came back early and then took the rest of the school year off for bereavement. What happened was the elementary teacher was driving down a back road at night, past a farm, when she saw a calf wandering on the road. She pulled to the side of the road and started trying to get the calf off the road and to safety. The student was driving down the road from the opposite direction and was momentarily blinded by the lights from the teacher's car. Didn't even see her until it was too late.

In our village there's this poor family with 10+ kids. One of the youngest who I love seeing because he hugs me a lot, was killed by their dad by accident. Now, a spanking or well sometimes hitting your kid is a form of discipline here. (I don't like it, but it's a norm). So what happened was that this little boy forgot to buy something the dad asked for. I think it was soy sauce. Now, their dad is not a violent man. He never hit his kids, but we think he was having a bad day and just hit his son, and the kid fell, hit his head against the wall or floor but the thing is, there was a nail exposed and yeah... The kid died. The family had to lie to the police because the dad was in jail before (accused of illegal drugs even tho he didn't have any) and they didn't want him to be sent in jail again. The dad looked so broken during the wake. His son was only 7. He would've been 13 now. It honestly sucked for everyone. Now the parents separated. The mom now lives with her parents along with the kids. The older kids live with the dad. It was a mutual decision, since the mom could work properly without worrying about the kids and the dad can work too without worrying about the older kids.

He was mid-40's and turned himself in after the warrant was issued for his arrest. He was eventually convicted and sentenced to 12-40 years in prison about a year and a half later. 2. A police officer with the local police department was arrested and resigned after it was discovered that he had slashed a resident's car tires. A few days before, he had driven through a red light without the lights and sirens turned on on his marked patrol car. The victim had been right behind him and reported it. He found out and instead of just giving her a ticket instead of a warning next time he pulled her over, he decided to go to her home and slash her tires. He was also the officer that responded to her home when she called to report it. He was charged with violation of oath of office, 1st degree criminal damage to property and then lying to investigators about it.

This was years ago and the town woke up to the news that two local boys were found in a field near a children's play park. One dead and one nearly dead. Both of the boys were known to be gay, so for days as the one boy was in hospital on the brink of death, our town feared we had a gay hating gang who might attack someone again. Finally a week later the boy recovered and the first thing he apparently said when he woke up was "I've just killed my friend." Turns out the two were having an affair. They met up to talk it out then one boy stabbed the other to cover up the affair and then tried to take his own life from guilt. All these years later and there are still flowers left on the field every year on the day of the dead boy's birthday. I think the other is out of jail now and I know his family moved away years ago after the crime. I always remember after the story came out and I was working in a local shop, a girl came in to buy stuff, saw I was reading the paper about it and we talked about the crime and I thought it was weird as she was really laying in how the boy who died wasn't "totally innocent". My co-worker then told me she was the sister of the boy who did it. I think that's the saddest story our town has.

Anyway, in the last ten years we've had police drag racing with new cruisers and totaling both, we've had a dentist go away essentially for life for molesting patients under anesthesia, we've had a runaway adopted girl commit suicide from the abuse she suffered from the system, another adopted girl steal a car take police on an hour long chase, a girl that killed two friends in dui and ran after police came to arrest her for failing to show up for trial...stuff like that. Now, the next town over where a lot of Hollywood celebs have summer homes and parents from all over the world send their kids to boarding school, has a huge drug problem, as well as an embezzlement problem with town officials. My old highschool (I'm in my sophomore year) has a lot of beef between the highschool i currently go to right now. One day i hear there's gonna be a football game between both schools and everyone is excited for the game,i didn't care because i thought "it's just a football game." So a lot of people i know and a few of my friends go,i didn't. Well later that day I'm on my friends Instagram watching there story and i see everyone running and screaming. Turns out someone brought a gun to the game. The person who brought it fired it and everyone heard it was running and screaming. Police were called and ambulance came as well. So the story i heard was a girl who went to my school was cheating on her boyfriend and the guy she was seeing behind her boyfriend back went to my old highschool so her boyfriend brought the gun to threaten him. Then i heard another person got killed but idk how. As the time I'm writing this, this happened a month ago. But yeah that's all i can think of as like "big scandals"

Idk if I would call this a scandal but some kid in my suburb fell through his roof and broke both his legs and that was all anyone in my school and suburb talked about for weeks

"A serial pooper .... welcome to Northern Finland!" TIL serial poopers aren't just an American phenomenon. "Luckily, the nerd girl graduated and went to college and live a very normal life. The popular girl peaked in high school". That's how it normally goes.

Back when COVID was raging and vaccines came out, the entier maternity ward at the hospital was shut down because the nurses refused to get the shot, i believe that it was covered in national us news. If it was local and related to COVID, the county I lived in only had a very low number of covid cases until an out of town pastor who didn't follow protocol did a church service and it waa super crowded and shot the numbers up really high. My late wife's grandma was the first recorded death in the county from COVID, so I have issues with people not listening to medical advice from doctors.

Either that first one is similar to a case I remember from being a small child or is, the story I heard was it was the wife of a priest and the girl was raped and they found her dismembered

We kinda had two. A woman was found beheaded next to the river. Shock for a while then found out that it was all over who got to sell drugs to this small town. This farmer town isn’t keen on drugs. But. The second one had a small pedophile ring broken up and each one added up. First a public school teacher. After that got a lead going to a man who was the towns Boy Scout troop co leader, and catholic school girls basketball secondary coach. The third was proven false. And third was doctor also prominent in the catholic school. But later determined to be a woman trying to get money from a lawsuit as everything “allegedly” happened at the hospital.
