Thanks for the great video. I really enjoyed it! I'm fortunate enough to live smack dab in the middle of this beautiful country and have visited all these places any number of times including spending a couple of nights at the Balch Hotel in Dufur (where I was the only guest!) Love this country and feel blessed to call it home.

The price of gas at the abandoned gas station at 8:05 was 66 cents, not 12 cents. The last purchase was for 12 gallons of gas.

If you really want those old lamps? I’ve got a hot deal for you. My in-laws recently passed Their home contained at least 200 of the lamps. At their memorial services we offered them free to all who wanted to take them. They spent years collecting. In Oregon btw.

Wad actually hoping this would show some ghost towns, not video of driving thru small towns. The price of gas was .66 for 12.5 gallons... Shaniko, you showed some interesting photos...but Not a ghost town Overall, some interesting photos, but really No ghost towns

I would be interested to know: were these recordings all made on a Sunday morning?

Fossil resident here: glad you had a nice stay! we are a poor community so I'm glad we weren't too bad. the restaurant at 17:34 was originally much prettier and local owned, it was recently bought. locals are not allowed and it's closed in the off season. lot's of beautiful land around us and great weather. we have been shrinking due to our remoteness, hours from any city. very tightknit local community. as far as i know, the courthouse tower isn't used for much, but the upstairs of the Museum often holds local gatherings and wedding receptions. it's a quite and remote village.

I had a chance to stay in the 'motel' in Shaniko. at 12:06. We were on a geology field trip checking out central Oregon. The next morning was Sunday, May 18th 1980. We were out in the field when a kind of sonic boom and shock wave was felt. Yes, Mt. St. Helens erupted! Our instructor predicted this would happen when we were out. It was overcast and we could not see the ash cloud. Later we were back in Salem and could watch TV and saw what happened.

Interesting locations. A ranch house and ranch tour would be great, when you have time. I don't get out much, so I live vicariously through other people. Thanks for the take-a-long.

Something to think about when contemplating the leadership of the US. Every small town had a school. First build a church, then a schoolhouse!

I've always wanted to go on this tour, and through the area. You see I was born in Corvallis Oregon. I lived most of my life in central Willamette valley. My parents and grandparents are from Lewiston Idaho, so I always drove interstate 84 and passed the Dufer (and others) sign always wondering what's there. Now I know. Thank you so much for sharing this!

You might learn to pronounce the names of the places your going, as a nearly 50 year resident of OR (Eastern, Western & Central) you lose all credibility when you mispronounce the words. Trying to be a tour guide & doing that makes you sound like an amateur. It's W(ah) mic.

Ok buster see if you can film and put out a video stop nitpicking he is doing a good job 👍

He pronounced Shaniko and Dufur right though. Be kind, tourism is the only reason Central Oregon isn't deserted!

the blue basin didn't show up well , and the red iron oxide in the hills is much more intense......cameras seem to not get it.........of course the summer sun bleaches colors too i haven't been over there in a few years , all that boardwalk is new to me but then Mitchell never saw traffic like now , maybe i don't want to go back
