The Orthodox Study Bible is an incredible tool for several reasons. 1) It highlights the traditions of the Eastern Orthodox Church that is largely overlooked in the Western World. 2) It gives us an NKJV that is in agreement with the Septuagint and the Deuterocanon of the Orthodox Church. 3) It gives us commentary from church fathers and from an orthodox perspective. 4) It has the lectionary, morning prayers, and evening prayers in the back (along with the communion preparation portion in the beginning.)
I’m not Orthodox, and I’m not going to agree with some of the Orthodox traditions. That aside, I think it is important that we look at church through the lens of its actual history in the eastern and western traditions. What I often find is there is a lot of agreement. Is the disagreement over important issues? Absolutely. But that doesn’t mean I can’t learn and grow from studying. I think it’s important that we respect those that hold the centrality of Christ as the foundation of their faith, even when the traditions are unusual, unsettling, and even seemingly wrong to us.

Thank you for your presentation on the Orthodox Study Bible, but you do not agree to praying to the Theotokos our Most Blessed Panagia even if it is sola scriptura and i ask you to please read the wedding in Cana Saint John 2/1-10 Amin

The pronunciation of the "gh" in Trisaghion is hard. The word means "Thrice Holy" in reference to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It's a superlative to underscore the doctrine that God is holy in an absolute sense. In the Divine Liturgy the Trisaghion is a beautiful prayer chanted by priest and people. It reads: "Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy and Immortal have mercy on us."

With regards to the different order of OT books, adding Bible tabs can be helpful.

It’s pronounced Tri- sag-eon. It means the Thrice Holy Hymn. It’s a prayer of benediction and mercy for the Trinity as a whole.

If you mean ghosting of the printed letters, it is significant. If you mean bleed through from writing I’ve never tested it on this paper.

It is not a prayer to the Mother of God, it is asking her for her prayer. But otherwise this is good review, subscribed.

So prayer is talking to God, but talking to Mary isn’t prayer?
@KillerofGods
@KillerofGods 11 ай бұрын
Prayer just means to ask, so there are different kinds of prayers. So you are praying to her, to ask for her to pray to God. But you aren't worshiping her... You are merely recognizing her position as the holy mother, similar to the queens of Israel/Judah were the Kings mother and people would petition them for the kings favor.

@@anickelsworthbiblereviews Hi there, I grew up Protestant and am in catechism for the Orthodox church right now. Think of it this way: You might ask a friend, pastor, or family member to pray for you. Does this mean you're praying to them in the same way you pray to God? No. It's the same for Catholic and Orthodox with Mary and the saints. They believe the saints and Mary are alive with Christ, and they are asking for support. More generally, there is scriptural basis for the veneration of Mary. Think of the way Mary is elevated in Luke's birth narrative ("Blessed are you among women" and following), or in John when Jesus tells the beloved disciple (representative of the whole church) that Mary is their mother, and Mary that the church is her son. Mary is the mother of the church. Like Abraham, she acted on faith in trusting the one creator God. All non-heretical Christians believe Jesus is fully divine and fully human. The fully human part does not happen without Mary, and God would not have chosen to become incarnate through just anyone. Just some food for thought. While I'm technically still Protestant, I don't think the theology behind praying to Mary or the saints is problematic for Jesus and Bible believing Christians. Unless one believes in soul sleep as the intermediate state (in which case prayers to the departed don't do anything, but don't necessarily offend) then there's really no issue in asking for intercession to those alive with Christ. Keep in mind that Protestantism is an extreme reduction of the faith as practiced by Catholic and Orthodox for 1,500 years before the Reformation. While some Protestants think that's a good thing, and the Reformers definitely were right in calling out bad practices by the Roman Catholic church, we should keep in our mind the wider supernatural worldview of the ancient faith. Christianity was not born into the Enlightment worldview, in which Protestantism flourished, where religion is kept in a corner and is considered part of one's private life. It was born into a world where the supernatural was accepted as part of everyday life and religion wasn't something someone does in private, but represented a whole way of life. The Greco Roman and Jewish worlds were highly religious. God and gods were not "out there somewhere" but fully involved in the world. Anyway, hope this helps. I really like your Bible reviews, keep up the good work.

I just recieved a copy, and to be honest, the physical book seems cheap to me. It 'crackles' when I open it to the middle of the book, I can see the print on the other side of the page, some pages were stuck together with binding glue. Over all. Dissappointed in the physical book.
