Jiva Daya I should do a video on my extreamly Nerdy Silhouette target collection.... No joke. I own several types I have collected. Including the first set of 1/5 targets I ever shot at in a match. I know. Wierd hobby.

www.steelchickens.com Is a good source for all things Silhouette. They have a Map of Silhouette Ranges. I don't see anything in Kentucky, but that may be out of date info, only as good as the folks who put it on the map. There where matches near Louisville in the past. You may want to talk to folks about re-starting a program.

Another question: If I'm shooting bolt action .22 iron sights, will I still have to shoot 1/5 targets or 1/2 targets?

Jiva Daya Check with venue. Each club is different. *For NRA shooting "by the book" . Yes smallbore is on 1/5 trgets. Iron sights is hard, but people do it. *NRA Cowboy Smallbore targets are 1/2 scale. Perfect for iron sights. Many clubs will have a Club class to shoot bolt or any smallbore action on 1/2 scale targets. This what I would recomend people start on. Even with scoped rifle, to get a feel for Silhouette. Then move to 1/5. Maybe someday NRA will recognize official iron sights categories?

It is a multi national sport. So some places will be yards some will be Meters. Know the range YOU will be shooting at.

Hi, thanks for the video. I am just getting prepared to go try silhouettes - do the guys with iron sights (like me) shoot the same targets/distances as the guys with scopes? How is that even possible? A quarter at 100 (109) yards? Looks like hella fun but this concept is psyching me out before I even get to the range...sigh

Jiva Daya Dont panic. Depending on what venue you shoot at, many have 1/2 scale targets available to get you started. Also Cowboy Silhouette is shot on 1/2scale targets, all with iron sights. Cowboy distances are chicken 40. Pig 50. Turkey 75. Ram 100 Get in contact with your local club hosting your matches. Find out what they have available on which dates, also if they have practice matches. Now,.so you know , there are some hard core shooters who shoot 1/5 scale targets with diopter sights. It is very hard, but it can be done. Good luck. Have fun.

Thanks so much for the reply! I'm in NC and there are a couple of venues within my driving range. Love your accent, I'm originally from MA :) I am really excited to get started and glad I am researching and getting organized in the winter so I'll be ready to go when the weather cooperates.
