Better than the live "old farm tractor display" at the Dutchess County Fair! My finger weeders need to be replaced :)

I love your setup. How did you prepare the land for planting? Looks very clean with no perennial weeds/grasses.

How is it the finger weeders don't damage the roots of your plants? In my mind, I can see how it would rip up the weeds, but I can't wrap my head around the plants aren't ripped up along with them. Can you shed some light on that?

It's a matter of the size of the plant, how strongly it is rooted and all the factors involved with how aggressive the cultivator is (speed, depth, hardness of rubber for fingers, how close you set both tools, and how loose the soil is). Basically to work the weeds have to be smaller than the crop plant. Some damage may occur to the crop, but the goal is to maximize weed control while minimizing crop damage. If you pay attention and know what to adjust and let the tool teach you, it can lead to great weed control.
