One point that some US boaters have inquired about through the years online is about Constitutional rights and whatnots. As far as I can see, they do NOT require probable cause or warrants or anything else like that. So absolutely do not go Sovereign Citizen on them whinging about "Amendments". It's always "Yes Sir" and full compliance.

rights afloat are way different than on land in your home. some basics still apply - the 5th amendment right against self incrimination. but this doesnt mean you dont have to say anything. there is no 4th amendment right to privacy which would require a warrant while operating a vessel. the authorities have the absolute authority to make a safety inspection. things get a bit more nuanced with a docked live aboard but when operating, be prepared to heave to when the authorities approach.
