Thanks for this one Ben, I didn't know about half of these things! Do you know if there create smart chips dynamically. Like someone chooses a dropdown of file names and then the smart chip of the file appears in another cell?

Thanks! Unfortunately, no way to dynamically create smart chips with formulas at this stage. To your specific question though, if you create a "dropdown (from a range)" and the range already includes smart chips, then they show up as smart chips in the drop down options. So you could have users select from a list of smart chip files.

Thanks. You're welcome. Unfortunately, you can't generate smart chips with formulas and I'm not aware of any plans to implement this.

Hi Ben. Thanks for the video! I think you've answered this in another comment, but is there a way to make a column automatically convert to a smart file chip? I've got some Google Form responses coming through to a sheet and I just need to display the file name in the column, at the moment it shows the Google Drive link. I can manually convert to a file chip but ideally I'd like that to be automated somehow.

I'm with you on hoping to do this, but unfortunately at the moment there is no way! I keep waiting for Google to update Apps Script to be able to both read smart chips and add smart chips, but I haven't heard any official word on a release date on this functionality.

QUESTION: USE CASE: I have a bunch of old google sheets from the pre-smart chip era. They all have the same data/cell format. They all contain customer data of clients who purchased services in the past. GOAL: I'd like to extract data from these and compile into a customer database. QUESTION: Can I use smart chips to help me extract the data and populate the new database?
