Close the shade completely, and then press and hold the down button for 5 seconds and the red light flashes 3 times. After doing this, the green light will only flash once when the remote control signal is received.

That light is a deal breaker. Logo too, but it's lower on the list. Good video.

Since publishing the video, I learned there is a button combination that you can press to disable the LED.

Very cool, I've always wanted motorized shades, but I can't justify the even still high price of window coverings. Normal shades themselves are already excessively expensive. Why on Earth?! Haha, regardless, your review on the SmartWings shades is a good take. I agree that having a logo on the shade is unneccesary, as well as it be cool if a light tug on the shades would initiate the motor manually rather than a hard to reach button or only with remote.

Yeah, shades can be expensive by themselves. A motorized version only drives up the cost. But if it's something you are considering, these look and work really great.

Michael, what is required for matter over thread? Is wi-fi needed also?

Matter-over-Thread requires a Thread border router. These include certain Apple HomePods, Apple 4K TVs, Amazon Echo and Google Nest devices, among others. However, Matter and Thread are two separate things, meaning you can have Matter device that works over WiFi without the need for a Thread border router.

Do you need to add it to Apple before putting it in HA? I don't have any Apple products in my home.

That should not be required. You can try to add directly to HA.
