The guy who mentioned Flakes is a true one Imo game sense comes first, you will learn basic mechanics just by playing, but itd harder to win a battle without strategy (as simple as the strat may be). As we saw, mechanical team didnt even think about their positioning

Yes, when you position worse. You tend to make more own goals, when look at the first goal. Triple commit and then own goal. The positional team was more organized with who goes to the ball, so they won the game, while in 1v1 they would propably lose. Its that, if you have great mechanics, but bad positioning. Your as good as player with not that great mechanics, but great positioning, so it compensates. So, when rotation team could not do all flip reset skills, because less hours in the game. Atleast they could save the shots comming from the air itself. When everybody mechanics will improve the more hours you put innthe game, but some may get stuck in certain rank, because lack of mechanics and so they will blame teamates why they dont rank up, while they dont take any part on defense, so why blame teamate in 2v1 scenario.

I’m mechanical on my side but i never sacrifice my game sense, i even see replays where i genuinely played bad and am a very good diamond overall, if these kids had any decent game sense they would easily win but their sense is horrible. These players can shoot off of a setup but can’t react quick

you do need mechanics once you reach GC though, so its better to learn mechanics whilst you go up the ranks than try learn it all to go from GC 1 to GC 2

I think mechanics and game sense are equally important. The thing about these "mechanical players" is that they never could capitalize when they had possession of the ball. Hitting the ball up and getting a flip reset shows some level of mechanical skill, but if you're not scoring or passing the ball from it, then what is the point? There's a time and place for when using a certain mechanic is necessary, but if you don't know those times or can't consistently do them well, especially when under pressure, you might as well not do them at all as it's more than likely just going to hurt your team. You can only get so far with 1 or the other, but having both mechanical and game sense will allow you to rank up way faster than just being good at one.

It's a scale through the ranks, around GC the level of mechs you need becomes notably higher. You need to be able to keep up with the high speed play and make the controlling touches. A smart diamond or champ in a GC lobby will just be a weak link in his team who gives up scoring opportunities and lets goals through

GC that is not able to have great consistency with his plays and has still not learned to rotate well, when it has been habit for him to rotate bad will also do bad in GC, so of course you need the mechanics, that improve the more hours you put in the game, but you also need other stuff, so you never see slow freestyler in GC, because they would get saved and then get scoored on with fast counter attack.

A thing I noticed was the level of maturity and age between the teams, the older and most likely more logical players thought about the game more whereas the younger less mentally developed players only though of the flashy stuff. Hard disagree. Basic mechanics are always gonna be present. If you're able to just go backboard or prejump, you're never getting scored on. Took a 2 year break and decided to solo queue for fun to see what happens. 90% winrate to champ 2 with just proper positioning. Mechanics don't matter, other than the basic ones

You need a mix of both because if your grounded the entire game and have no ariel control whatsoever its gonna be incredibly difficult to score. This was apparently a diamond lobby. Every player on the field had strong aerial control including confident air roll. The game sense guys were throwing passes, going for demos, easily reading and shutting down air plays. They seemed like typical, highly mechanical players to me. More like the opponents Flakes plays rather than Flakes. They didn't play cautiously like they're in 1v1s or carefully guard their net. They didn't outplay by waiting, not touching unnecessary balls and letting people throw themselves out of position. Instead. They outplayed with challenges, passes or mechanical outplays

There is never a time you disregard Game Sense, because it will put you in the best position, make the best decisions almost every time allowing your mechanics to shine. This is how I put it. Mechanics are necessary to further improve and are more time consuming to learn. Whereas game sense can be learned through gametime as well. Mechanics is def something to work on from the start. You may be able to reach gc without mechanics, but you are not getting any higher unless you put hundreds of hours then into mechs

A fake is not a mechanic. A fake requires you to observe your opponent and react to their play, any play that requires awareness of opponent is not a mechanic, it is a game sense. Mechanic is something you can do in freeplay, with or without an opponent

Champ 2 player here. I have like 0 mechanical abilities beyond the basics like half flips, and speed flips. I can barely air dribble on occasion, can't flick, ground dribbles are as bad as air dribbles. I will always stand by the fact that you do not need mechanics, you just need to play smart. I know players 5x more mechanical than me, but they cannot beat me in an actual game.

Is your car control good though? Can you hit the ball precisely as you want or with power? Are you really good at challenges and always aggressively challenging? Your mechanics might be very good at specific things. If your mechanics/coordination really is bad. You sound similar to me but at a way higher level. I'd be surprised if we played similarly though. Lots of Smart players play aggressive or mechanically demanding play styles like Lethamyr, AppJack & Spookluke promote.

as a gc mechanical player looking back I regret learning game sense over mechanics because game sense is so much more useful in game than mechanics positioning rotating etc it used much more than going up the wall for a play going for a solid shot over a double reset is better im 1550 right now in 2s but only d3-c1 in 1s, however game sense players are also 1550 in 2s but like c3 maybe even gc1 in 1s it shows that game sense beats mechs

Game sense definitely wins over mechanics any day. I cant air dribble at all but I got to champ just with my game sense, and I have enough mechanics to save most aerial shots.
