Smart Race App- My Top 5 Features!

One of my favorite things about racing Carrera Digital is the ability to use the Smart Race App to manage races, track stats, time laps, and so much more. I am not sponsored by Smart Race, I purchased my own copy to use on my track. Here are my 5 favorite features of the app! I hope you enjoy.

For anyone reading this and is on the fence about getting the app, I second Marty's words completely. The Smart Race app is so vital to a Carrera Digital experience, I couldn't imagine being without it. The ONLY downside I have ever encountered is not having the ability to set qualifying to Laps instead of minutes (I haven't used it recently, so maybe this has been updated). Hey Dennis! Thanks so much! Off the top of my head, I believe you can qualify via lap count or time now.

It has added so much to our race night. Not just for the races but even being able to keep track of all the lap times as we practice and tune.

I just bought a carrera digital track and have this app. Still trying to learn how to assign drivers and cars to the racers before the race starts. Love your video. It is hands down the best quality slotcar video on youtube I have seen. Thanks! New SUB. :)

Thanks Jason! You are too kind. The assignment of cars and drivers is a little clunky. You can assign from the main menu, but sometimes it doesn’t update. You start a race and once you cross the start finish line the car registers on the race screen and sometimes the controller is assigned to the wrong driver/car..usually from the previous race/practice session. I need to look at this again.. and see if I can confirm the proper procedure and post the results.

@SmartRace Defenitly great job ! Does it allow tyre wear, management and configuration ? What about fuel consumption regarding to cars behavior does it affect it ? Can we configure cars throtlle and brakes curve? All this with carrera, if not any or your other system could allow it (SCX) ? Which Brand should I pick to make it work ? thanks for your help, it s hard top find recent news on this. Best regards

You need the Carrera Bluetooth Adapter to connect to SmartRace.

Hello ! Thanks for you vid 👍still have some questions : Does it allow tyre configuration, management and Wear ? Also regarding fuel consumption, is it a function of your trigger use or fixed lap degradation ? Can we set up cars throtlle and break curve ?

No specific controls for tires. Just dry tires or wet tires.. and changing with pit stop. Fuel is based on lap times or a percentage of tank per lap. You have some choices when it comes to fuel settings. You can tune cars right in the app.. throttle and brakes.

Yes, the Bluetooth dongle is how Smart Race communicates to the CU!

Marty, can this be used on a two lane analog track and keep time? Also if not what would you suggest app wise to use on an analog track?

Kenny, you can use Smart Race with an analog track. You need to use the Smart Race Connect App on a second device. It uses the camera and hot zones. I tested it this last weekend and it worked flawlessly if you use a small tripod. Seemed to be very accurate. Not all app functions work, but it will do lap counting and timing.. which is all you need for an analog track.

You need a device that you can mirror the iPad to, like an Apple TV or smart TV that has airplay.

I ran an HDMI cable between my iPad and TV. You can also use screen mirroring if your devices are compatible.

It connects to Carrera CU via Bluetooth.. I am going to say no, unless you retrofit the CU into the track and then chip the HO cars..

Hey hi ! How do you automatically stop the race when a car leaves the track ? I can’t find the option on the SmartRace app! An idea where the option is hiding ?

There is a “hand” icon on the bottom left side… that will stop the race…

I use an Apple TV to share the iPad screen to the TV. If your TV is a smart TV and does AirPlay.. should not be difficult to do.

Brad, it is an IOS or Android app. It takes advantage of the Carrera Bluetooth dongle.

got the smart race app ..but its not letting me re-fuel any suggestions ?. it shows the fuel consumption from 100% down to 0% but when i hit the pits it will not fill..?

Is Smart Race fighting with the CU fuel setting? I think you have to turn the fuel switch to ON or Real. Does the CU beep and the App announce that you are in the pits when you cross the fuel eye? There is a switch on the bottom of the cars to switch it to analog mode. I’ve never done it cause analog sucks compared to digital. Just my opinion but that’s me.

@@twolinesslotcars would love to see the vsc feature applied to the actually pace car - option to set a timer for the pace car, slow down the cars on the track, when the pace car is running, maybe some rain sound and thunder sound effects when it starts raining, fix the tire change when weather changes (instead of tires changing when ever you fuel), maybe a throttle sensing feature where cars go on yellow flag when there is a crash and cars slow down, or stop automacally

I'm just starting out in slot car racing, and I'm already sick and tired of being nickeled and dimed to death at every corner, and that includes lap counting software. I'm drawing the line at microtransactions and a paid subscription just to count laps, so I'll just use Open App instead, which is totally free. Seriously, y'all would monetize breathing while playing with these toys if you could....

You don’t have to upgrade to a monthly fee. One time purchase.. count laps and manage races.. no problems. You just would not be able to use some of the advanced features. I understand. I do not pay for most extras… they really have to wow me..
