This is one of my favorites of your videos. Really nice work beefing up the tracks (including the filming thereof)!

the reduced efficiency at high loads is most probably due to the transformer design. i have done some measurements on apc 2200 tx (wich as you know have two tx used in parallel. if you are interested i can send you test details.

with the age of this video i wonder if arctic makes those fans anymore, they are a brilliant idea, i've seen similar in old Dell PCs before. These have thermal leads though!
@RaafatALBadran2 жыл бұрын
You probably need to add additional transistors and to check the current rate for the relays and replace them with bigger current contact capacity.

Hi buddy, any video yet, on high idle current modifications. After power cut all battery power drained by no load current when device not in use. I have apc 2200va and apc smart 750VA. Thanks pal keep up the good work. Much appreciated

what did you mean by it rebooting with out the additional capacitor ? did you mean it will randomly shut off ? i have upgraded the batteries on my ups and it is randomly shuting off after 15 ~ 30 minutes and i need to restart it again. i made sure its not a heat issue but i dont know what else it could be :(

good job have a similar setup here i suggest u to use fan filters for dust problem u can use dried baby wipes if u like. also u can make ur own super simple (ntc mosfet pot) fan speed controller and calibrate as ur needs.

Great video I really like the UPS ones as I do similar hacks. I find cooling the transformers the hardest bit and I have gotten Dell temperature controlled fans from old PCs and used that, I put the temperature sensor in the windings so I adequately cool the transformer.
@FFcossag8 жыл бұрын
Yep, often the transformers are severely undersized for the rating of the unit. Since they aren't built to run continuously, they can get away with driving the transformers into saturation and just letting them heat up their giant thermal mass during the short time it's running on battery.

I want to do the same, already have the second transformer for it but dont know how to do like you ? Would you please instruct me how to do this ? You have not explained or given any schematics for this.

Nice, i have 1000 and 1250 from 1998,.still working fine, i ad same type of fans en 2010, but i use 5v, to get silent fans,, now i power they externally, do you know if i can get 12 or 5v dc from the board without damage it? thanks

Huh. I was always told the Gentle Typhoon fans were the ones to go to for low noise. Guess that's not the case with this unit, especially if they were running full tilt. I really want to get my hands on a set of two of the PWM variant for testing, but they're hard as hell to find for less than 20 bucks US a piece now.
@FFcossag8 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, Gentle Typhoons have excellent airflow-to-noise ratio. It's just that they were not thermally controlled in this application, whereas the new fans are relatively aggressively so.

Heya, i am having some issues with my hack; my Spmart-UPS 1000 seems to have some sort of internal battery capacity meter that it refuses to ignore. I am running my UPS off a power supply but whenever it decides that this mysterious software defined battery size is empty, it shuts off and refuses to run further until i reset it or let it charge some battery. How could i make it ignore that software limitation?
@FFcossag Жыл бұрын
You can't, but you can use prog mode through the serial terminal (press 1, wait >1.5 seconds, press 1 again) to change the number of external battery packs to something silly, as well as change the battery constant (send a 0 and use +/- to change value) to something bigger. That'll net you hours or days of runtime. Finite but long.

what's that yellow-ish tape called? I saw it being use a lot in electrical and wondering why they don't just use normal clear tape? guess that yellow tape can withstand heat than regular tape?

How the hell does you iron make that good a joint my 100w cant even tuch that kind of soldering had to get out the 160w

The secret is in the thermal resistance between the heater and the tip.

so close to CT2 that is connected to the output. Unfortunatly nothing is burnt and i have no idea of what i'm doing lol thanks for the input.

can some one please help me get my APC Back-UPS Pro 1000 S BR1000MS to run longer when I hook up my 100AH battery to it? This thing thinks it has the original battery, no matter what size you hook up.150w load runs 24 minutes. while the BMS of my fully charged 100 amp hour lifepo4 battery calculates 9 hours. What the hell? It has some kind of battery timer, pretending to be a battery monitor.
@FFcossag2 жыл бұрын
I doubt that thing will give you access to the smart protocol to adjust the number of external packs parameter, you're probably screwed.
@immrnoidall2 жыл бұрын
@@FFcossag yup. this is cheap gimmick stuff. you need to see it to believe it. the transformer is in direct contact with the plastic shell and it is melting and deformed. not the slightest bit heat resistant. I got it used and got my money back and they didn't ask for it back after the pictures I sent.This thing gets hot as hell on battery even with no load. has a place for fan ,with a flow arrow that would blow the heat right onto the board. lol. there are vents where it touches the sides of the case , but no air could be sucked in because the metal of the transformer/coil ,is actually touching the plastic all around those two little vents. no wounder they are deformed. The craziest part is, the case looks like it was made for rising heat airflow up along side of the transformer and out the vents, but the channels are blocked by plastic. like the casting was "F"ed up. seriously, you'd would have to see it to believe it. APC has gone to crap. I used an old one [not sine wave] to run some lights and laptop charger for many years. but killed it with a hot plate. thank God it was the ones in metal cases because the transformer did the rocket engine thing inside . A LOT of magic smoke was released. A LOT.

Some NCS sounds would be much better in your segments where u have to use some sort of music. All you have to do is credit them in the description box. Plenty of channels use youtube and NCS audio with no issues m8
@FFcossag8 жыл бұрын
I would, if not for my policy of only using public domain music. I want any part of my video to be re-usable by anyone, for any purpose, without any restraints. Using Creative Commons licensed stuff would not allow for that.
@mimic586 жыл бұрын
Do you know if these are True Low frequency Pure Sign wave? or modified sign? also how long can you run one of these at full load before overheat?
@FFcossag6 жыл бұрын
They can probably do 20 minutes or so at full, and yes, real sine output.

Hi there, nice video! Im trying to convert my old ups into an inverter using Li ion batteries. I use a 3s 16p battery back with a bms so it would cut off power to the ups at 3.2v, and a separate charger for the batteries. Now my problem is that since the ups is designed to use deep cycle batteries it shuts down at 11.6v. Like you have shown in your other video Im trying to find that voltage diver and change the resistors so perhaps I can trick the ups and so it won't shut down. Since Im a newbie, would you kindly help me out? I can send a few pictures.
@FFcossag7 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid I never have time to help people out like that anymore. I've never modified a 12 V APC UPS for that either, so I don't know where the divider is off the top of my head.
