I was only going to donate $1, but after reading all the comments about people not wanting to donate because it is a religious charity, I quickly changed my mind. $20 to cover 19 people who would rather children suffer than to learn about Jesus.

As a peruvian I'm very happy about this, but at the same time I'm sad. We have to wait until people from other countries come and help us, and don't get me wrong, that's totally fine, but my point is that our people (Peruvians) care less to none when it comes to help each other. My country is a capital-centered country, all and goes around Lima and just Lima and I think that's not fair for all the people living here. It got to the point where the people who aren't from Lima (example: from Arequipa) starts to hate you when you travel and they ask you: "Where are you from? -Oh I'm from Lima". The goverment is full is people who only seeks the power over the others and make bad decisions just to get money. So having said that, I'm very happy that people from other countries, not only the U.S cares about the situation of Perú. I'm sure that if we all work together we can make things better and start building a much better country. Thanks guys! P.D: Sry if I have some mistakes, Spanish is my native language. (+1 to this post if you want the people to know the real situation)

That's a really interesting perspective, and I'm sure there's a little of that in every country. I work in Washington DC, and am quite sure that someone in Detroit would have similar feelings.. I struggle with donating to charities that simply go into a poor place and feed the people, enabling them to continue to live in their current miserable existance, but I think this seems very different - With this group, it looks like the end result will be more educated and happy, productive individuals leaving the area, and hopefully they'll pay forward what they were given once they achieve something... Like the policeman in the video..

for all those "nay-sayers"... regardless of your religious affiliation THAT particular quote is actually COMPLETELY related to this video and their cause and not preachy at all.. it's something that we should abide by in daily life regardless of religion.. Every life is meaningful and if you have the drive/cause/funds to change/support the lives of those less fortunate.. whether you're an atheist, a jew, a christian, a buddhist , than you should help in any way you can... This movement/project is amazing and I'm glad there are people out there like you. Love, An Atheist

Are people really freaking that hard about a little blip of a Psalm at the end of a video showing how Destin and others helped families out? Really? I'm agnostic, and there is not an iota of this video that seems preachy to me. The easiest way for you to not get offended? Don't watch SED! Destin, way to go, man! You're making the world a better place bit by tiny bit!

Aj32678 We're talking about kids. It is not for nothing churches say: get them while they're young. Children listen to parents, they are, to them, figures of authority and will accept pretty much everything that is taught to them. They do NOT have a choice.
@Novenae_CCG

Just as a side note: '' I'm an agnostic'' doesn't mean anything. Your gnositicsm or agnosticism refers to your theism/atheism/anti-theism. Theism: I believe in a god. Atheism: I have no belief in a god. Anti-theism: I believe there are no gods. Gnosticism: I think that what I belief can be proven. Agnosticism: I think the subject at hand can't be proven or disproven. So, if you're agnostic, all you're saying is that you don't think the existence of a god can be proven, but it doesn't say what you actually believe. If you're _not sure_ there is a god, but there _could_ be one, then you're neither a theist, nor an anti-theist. You're atheist (atheism still allows for gods to exist!).

Meh. I'm conflicted. I love the idea of giving homes to kids who need them, but the Not Forgotten organization's mission statement also involves attempts at religious conversion/indoctrination, which I do not love at all. So now I'm torn between "do I help kids get homes while subjecting them to intellectual subversion, or do I spare them the subversion and also not help them get shelter?" Kind of a crappy position to be in.

Our goal is to meet their material needs and keep them from being sexually exploited. We're compelled by our faith to do this. I don't care If you're compelled by the Chicago Bears to do this. Let's just get them off the streets.

I agree with you. I always give my charity dollars to non-religious organizations because there are many charities out there devoted to getting children off the street and such without having them molded into homophobic, potentially ignorant/hateful people. Do not force religion onto children, educate them on religion so they may cultivate their own beliefs and morals.

I remember commenting pretty much the same thing on the last video that was posted awhile ago. Still conflicted but I think I've decided that even if a child is forced to learn about religion they're a hell of a lot better off being there... And I do trust Destin even though I really have no reason to. Hell, I went to a christian high school and it only strengthened my resolve as an atheist.

SmarterEveryDay Just make sure you do not force your faith onto others. Helping is ok, but but forcing your views onto others in not ok. Be it faith ideas or doing all you can so they blindly love the Chicago Bears team. Let the children grow up and pick there own believes and sports teams. There are many cases were helping was not "helping". There are times when a group comes to "help" and ends up damaging the cultural of the people and forcing them self's on to the ones they where helping to the point were deaths happen from the locals rejecting the change or even suicide because of a loss of self. I am sure you will be careful not to do any damage. Just remember to respect the cultural of the people also and the the people themselves.

SmarterEveryDay I have no problem using your faith as a motivator to help the kids--anything that motivates that is great. It's a matter of this line on the mission statement of Not Forgotten: "Not Forgotten invites you to join us in spreading the hope of Jesus Christ to these children, that they might find true life in Him." That sounds a lot to me like it goes far beyond using faith to help the kids and crosses into pushing one faith onto the kids you've helped. That's the line that bothers me when it's crossed.

After reading people saying that they are conflicted because Not Forgotten uses Christianity and a wholehearted belief in Christ as a message, I was compelled to say THANK YOU! Many of these people seem to misunderstand what faith in Christ seems to be about. Yes, you should keep on spreading the news of Jesus across Peru, there are many that need to hear his message! I am in a bit of a financial bind right now, but I will be enlisting in the Navy here pretty soon and I will gladly donate to a cause that uses the Word of God as a message! Science is all fine and dandy, but it was God that allowed us the ability to make our own choices, it is up to us on how we use that power. Many people seem to think that God is Anti-Science, or Vice Versa, or in other words that you can't love science and be a true God-fearing man. WRONG, science helps us understand things that we previously could not, however as we discover all these new things we should praise God and thank him for creating such a wonderful earth, where this science is even possible. The next argument will be that if God was real, then why does all the bad things (human trafficking in Peru for example) keep happening? Good question, once again it all boils down to choice. God gave everyone a choice, he gave Satan free will, and that caused him to try and overthrow God himself. Evil exists because God gave everyone free will, we can do as we please while we are here on this earth, but it is when we are gone from this earth that we will have to pay the price when you don't believe, or collect the rewards for our faith here on earth. So keep on spreading the word! Let it be the backbone of your message, and let it be what drives you! God is good and will definitely reward you for spreading his word, and living life the way that he wanted us to, by helping each other. Pray for those that need prayer, help those that need help, and those that think they don't need prayer, well they need it the most! Prove that Christians aren't bigots, we aren't homophobic, we aren't hypocritical. There may be a few like that out there, but the majority of TRUE Christians would never judge a person and would just love them like Christ loves us. Amen and you guys are in my prayers!

It's hilarious how hypocritical these people are. They speak as if atheism is not a belief, or ideology of it's own. It's perfectly justifiable for them to spread their ideology because clearly all others are horrible corrupting belief systems. In reality, they are in the same position as any other religion, they have no solid proof or evidence for what they believe in, only faith in what they choose to perceive as the truth. I am an atheist, and I recognize that my beliefs hold just as much credibility as anyone else's.

SmarterEveryDay I just donated to this charity, but I also was given some pause by the idea that the kids will be taught to be Christian as part of their care. To me, an atheist, that's like saying the kids will be taught that Burger King is better than McDonalds, as part of their medical care. I love that they are getting the care and protection and love that they desperately need, but working any religion into that is a waste of resources, some of which I just provided. So I'm not letting my personal beliefs get in the way, but I am against forming the *kids'* personal beliefs, when it's about something I don't think will help them. Get it the difference?

He's giving them something to believe in, when things are down and they feel alone. What's wrong with that? Think about it, what's worse, leaving them to fend for themselves or putting them in a home and preaching god's word. The only reason you're not donating is that you think he's forcing them to believe? That's messed up. And to those who don't have enough money to donate, but share it on social media, you're doing just as well because other people can see it and donate. Laying up crowns in heaven... sharing the love you have been given with the little ones. I'll be supporting you in prayers my friend! May the Lord continue to bless all the work of your hands, as you reach out to help those who can't help themselves! It's a shame some people don't see the benefit of both of your missions. They think that because you are motivated to do these things out of your love for Christ, that this is somehow "forcing your religion" on the children. Nobody can force anybody to accept love or salvation... it's always a personal decision that everyone has to make... to simply (a) accept the love of God as shown through what Christ fully accomplished for us, or to (b) reject that love and the promises that go with it. We're all responsible for our own decisions... one way or the other. It's someone holding out a gift and offering it to you... saying "here it is, I can't force you to accept it, it's up to you to grasp it, open it, and enjoy what's inside". If we explain to the little ones what's inside the "gift", it gives them the information needed to make a well-informed decision when the time comes... but it's still their decision... and your decision... take it or leave it. No other "spiritual leader" ever made this claim "I am THE truth, THE way, and THE life... no one comes to the Father but through me". Only one.

First and foremost, I did donate. Then I read the comments. Theres a bit of controversy going on about whether this organization is forcing beliefs on to another. Mainly revolving from this mission statement "Not Forgotten invites you to join us in spreading the hope of Jesus Christ to these children, that they might find true life in Him." I guess I can understand why everyone is so skeptical about donating, but I did donate before reading the comments so it was either an unbiased decision or a very ignorant one. Either way one less kid off the streets, I just hope forcing a religion or beliefs onto these kids is not what's happening.

My ideal world would be the one where there's no boundaries for sharing hope and inspiration. Dustin, you are making that possible by closing little by little the gap of distance with your tools of knowledge and attention for others. As a peruvian I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, and not only that but also that I've just spread the word to one of the most influential peruvian media ( Elcomercio.pe) - there are some others as well, but need tie to reach them- to encourage more peruvians to follow your ideal anda that's always a way to help each other.

I'm from Peru and I've been there. I'm grateful that Iquitos was chosen, I encourage you to vote and help them. Iquitos is a wonderful place but could be better, and not only that place. Iquitos is the central part of Loreto(therefore it is a little bit more "developed"), but there are more places that need help, there is a community called San Antonio in Nauta and people from there told me that most of the year these kids don't go to school because there are NO TEACHERS. There is a lot to do. And this could be the start for making a better place for the people who don't really have much.

Great video! This is my first project for awesome and it's so awesome to see people across the globe come together to collaborate and help others. I have a thought provoking question for hank/John. What do you get when you cross a joke and a rhetorical question? Happy P4A AND DONT FORGET TO BE AWESOME.

House dust mites, due to their very small size and translucent bodies, are barely visible to the unaided eye. A typical house dust mite measures 0.25-0.3 millimetres (0.010-0.012 in) in length. For accurate identification, one needs at least 10× magnification. The body of the house dust mite has a striated cuticle.

I think I am going to Vote for something that does not involve religious indoctrination. "Not Forgotten invites you to join us in spreading the hope of Jesus Christ to these children, that they might find true life in Him and grow up to become agents of change in their communities." from their website.

this is really awesome to see smarter every day in Peru. i say this because i went to Peru for 2 weeks earlier this year to hike the mountains and deliver bibles to the Quechua people who, until recently, did not have the bible in their language.

This is such an amazing thing you're doing.. So many people in the world need help, and while most of us watch the bad news on TV, you're going all the way to Peru to help these people first hand. The least we can do is to donate some dollars to make it possible to do the work you're so graciously willing to do.

Regardless if you are religious or not, what Dustin & his friends are doing is amazing. It doesn't matter what you believe in, a lot of peoples lives have been changed because of people like Dustin & organisations like Not Forgotten. I hope they raise even more money to continue helping people & spreading the word of God in the process is in no way a bad thing. Rock on!

The verse that was on the screen at the end is "Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute." (ESV) I thought that was kinda cool that he threw that in there. Don't start a religion war, just give giving you information :)

I have nothing against helping children or by any means "spreading the word of God". I do, however, have issues with lying and being deceitful. If we as a culture manage to create a one world religion, what does that mean for the rest of the world? If all "sex trafficking" has been stopped, what does that mean for the world? If EVERYONE had a shelter, a place to call home, what does that mean for us? Are we really helping here or are we destroying cultures... I only wish to share my opinion. Thanks for reading.
