@SuviTuuliAllan7 жыл бұрын
Sure you could but I do like the idea of having something like this in a smarthouse (not that millennials buy houses, right?). Their website said that it takes about 10W to power a square metre. It's a bit more than what I would have expected but still not that much. I'm guessing that you probably don't have AC in your house and all lights are LED, right? Got 'em solar panels installed yet? Yeah, they aren't necessarily cheap... Such is life under capitalism. Yeehaw!

Suvi-Tuuli Allan i only use a fan i have right next to me and all my lights are led. I'd get some solar panels if they weren't so damn expensive. The sliding doors to the ICU room I'm in right now have this glass. The switch is somewhere in the tracks to the door I'm assuming (I have a *very* limited understanding of how electrical circuits work) because when the doors get slid almost all the way closed, they change from frosted to transparent so the medical staff can check up without being too disruptive. And even though this technology isn't new obviously, I've been watching these for the past two days in awe because it's my first time seeing them. But then again, it was alsoy sister in-law's first time seeing them, but she's not as amazed at how things work like I am. Just *that* they work as they're supposed to.

Finally, I had this idea when I first tingled with one of the first LCD screens for calculators...(in the eighties of last century) They had a little plastic film over it to see the crystals. when turning it 90 degrees on top of the LCD, it became black. Later, as I understood, this plastic film properties were incorporated in the LCD module. That's when it became obviously that they could make whole screens black just by a little electricity... Too bad I did not have the wish nor the funding nor the material and the proper knowledge at the time to go commercial on this. Glad someone else did. Hopefully we can enjoy sunscreens in the future.....

What’s the U-value for the glass used in those windows? What about transmittance? Those factors are also important. Videos like this are nice, but it would also be nice to include some relevant stats about the performance of the products on display. It makes for a more transparent showcase (pun not intended) and more likely that someone would buy the product- assuming the goal is to drive sales here.
@Егор-ы3ю7я2 жыл бұрын
the what? you clearly see theyre blurry enough. no more information is needed, besides cost.
@zakiducky2 жыл бұрын
@@Егор-ы3ю7я U- value and transmittance are thermal performance factors. I’m not asking about how ‘blurry’ the glass makes things look on the other side, I’m asking about how much heat loss or heat gain they allow via radiant and conductive heat transfer. These are really important performance characteristics for glass used in windows, which is one of the proposed uses they show here. It matters much less, if at all, for interior applications.

Yes we were. look it up. it failed because we Americans are too lazy to learn something new, even if it is superior. Metric System is superior to Imperial in every way, and most Americans DON'T learn Celsius, which is also superior to Fahrenheit.

Judging by the video, the glass seems to change from transparent to translucent, but not opaque which would allow no light through, like a brick wall. Opaque would be good for bedrooms and darkrooms. I hope progress can be made in that direction.

I remember the original Star Tours at Disneyland having this tech. Next to the security droid in the queue, there was a transparent divider wall made up of squares that would randomly switch between clear and frosted, just like in the video. And that was in 1987! I'm surprised the tech has been so slow to advance and see widespread adoption... does anyone with more knowledge of it know what factors might be holding it back?
