Emily , I have approx 10 Sonos speakers spread across the house. They work just fine. However, the app on my iPhone, can only connect to Sonos when it is connected to the "main" wifi . ( for example when I'm in the bedroom the phone connects to a TP Link wifi extender) So although the Sonos mesh extends for the bedroom speaker to play, I can't control it unless I walk back into range for the main WiFi .

Looking at purchasing a sonos system, but, can you tell me if I'm streaming music through my home and a phone call comes in, does it mean my phone call will then be streaming throughout the house too? I have a small bluetooth speaker I use sometimes and when a call comes in, I have to turn the speaker off to stop everyone in the office hearing my phone call! Just wondering if I'll end up with a similar dilemma at home? tks

Linda Carroll that’s the great thing about WiFi speakers as they are not interrupted if your phone rings or battery dies. Sonos speakers connect directly to the music Sevices so your phone only acts as an controller. Hope this helps.

Can you use airplay for multiple Sonos devices at the same time? For example, if I have a Sonos beam in the living room and a Sonos one SL in the kitchen. Can I use airplay to play music from both speakers at the same time?

Hi Darreon. Yes, this is possible. Similar to how the Sonos App works, when using AirPlay 2, a drop down list of all your AirPlay 2 enabled devices will show and you can tick multiple speakers at the same time and the music will play on both at the same time. I was seriously thinking about getting a beam and one sl but next to no one gives a example how to use it with a Android phone. And from what I see on the Google play store the apps gets a terrible review for being very poor to use! Shame as I really fancied the beam paired with a SL but not if I can't use it because I have a Samsung galaxy S20!

KWJJ It is all about the Quality I am afraid. Sonos made the decision that only Apple phones would have consistent enough microphones to set up using true play......... in other words, there are so many crap phones out there with crap microphones that are running Android! Sorry, but this is the facts. Sonos = Quality Hardware. Apple = Quality Hardware. Android could be running on any old crap device, so the true play set up wouldn’t be as good.

Prashanth Akunuri No it is not, Android is software that could be running on any phone, and they can’t determine wether it is a quality phone running it or not. iOS will only be running on an Apple phone. They have to have high standards.

@@Laptopdog78 Kind of harsh but true. I might have mentioned that Apple is a closed system, meaning both the OS and the hardware are fixed and under the control of Apple. Android is, for lack of a better term, "open" and not tied to a specific set of hardware. The results from an Android device are just to unpredictable to make it useful.

Air Play will only work with an Apple device. It does not work, nor will it ever work, on an Android device.

@@jefflebowski3319 Sorry, I got the term "AirPlay" confused with the Sonos term "TruePlay". Is the Apple "AirPlay" the streaming music service from Apple? The reason for the clarification is that I don't own Apple products. As for Android streaming services, I use Pandora but there is also several others and I think it is Spotify that may have the direct Spotify to Sonos functionality. Again, sorry about my confusion.

Example, will Spotify play the complete album "Tommy" by the Who in the order disc 1, side 1, song 1, 2, 3 ... then disc 1, side 2, song 1, 2, 3 ... Pandora does not allow for this and it is damn annoying. Thanks.

You keep telling us to "Go To More", (3 dots, bottom right), but my App does not have the 3 dots. A Settings wheel is in it's place, and when opened does not show any headings you have. Mine is Account/System/Services&Voice/App Preferences/Support/Data Privacy/Legal. Is this for an old App, since updated rendering this video as too old and unhelpful?

I'd suggest you include a video of how to "move your (Sonos One Gen2) speakers around or reallocate them" I erroneously assigned a speaker and it all went pear shaped trying to correct, and I was frantically searching to resolve. I eventually found one place where they addressed this issue with simplicity and the comments indicated that I was not alone in my dilemma (typical comment: "I was two seconds from throwing it out the window. You saved me !! Thank you") . Weirdly, it has a name very similar to yours, (Smart Home Sales), but probably deliberate by them. There are many "opening the box" tutorials (too many?), and not enough very helpful tech solutions like yours, which I liked. Many thanks.

Waited a while to get a Move. What an awkward job to set up… First you need an email account, to download one of the four apps I came across on my iPhone 12 ios app store, then I needed to get confirmation via an email and before I could listen to anything! I own a Marshall Stanmore and a Marshall Acton. They were simply unboxed, plugged in, sync’d with my phone via bluetooth and I was ready to go. I sent the Sonos move back. The quick set up paperwork inside the box was not correct. A shame really, because I may well have invested in another Move. I trust you have a video on the Sonos Move.

No Sonos only likes Sonos. By ikea lamp do you mean Ikea loudspeaker lamp? You can use ikea loudspeaker lamp with other Sonos speakers.

Informative but out of date. Things have changed recently (surprise!) and this info could use an update. Now, regarding tip 10, Airplay functionality; there are some Apple products where this functionality does not work. For example the Ipad Pro; can't do it. I have heard from other sources that even the newest Iphones can't do it. It's functionality that "might be" really neat but it is very device (not manufacturer!) specific.

I have 3 Sonos speakers, I like the sound quality and flexibility they provide but I find the Sonos app to be almost indecipherable. If I need to change anything it is usually done by trial and error. As for tips and tricks, if the narrator spoke a little slower I may have got some benefit from them, unfortunately even after pausing and replaying the tips I was interested in numerous times, I am no wiser.

like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, kzbin.infoUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

cerec69 I can’t remember if I had to configure anything on the Connect/Port system menu. You can check Line-In system settings for your Connect if this doesn’t work first time... Perhaps it was automatic, but here is the basic process... Connect your preferred HiFi source to the analogue IN phono sockets on the back of your Sonos Connect/Port. Within the Sonos App select the Sonos speaker room you want to hear music through. Now choose to “browse” from that Sonos room. Choose “Line-In” and viola the music can play from whatever source you cabled to the input on your Connect/Port. Enjoy!

...and notice you can adjust the “Source level” in the Connect/Port Line-In System Settings to align the sound volume level with your other streaming services. 👍

Sonos is a terrible company that at one time had a great system. My speaker was great until the company fixed where it would never play my music loaded into my iPhone or iPad. Now it will only allow streaming music which sucks because I don’t listen to the radio ever. I wish the idiots would give me my money back because they’ve basically made my speaker useless.

Come on Pete, the "legacy" devices will still work, they just will not work all together anymore. I (think) that you and I are in that same boat; I have mixed devices; old Play 5's, new Play 5's. It is my understanding I have a couple of options. Turn in my legacy devices for some credit (30%) or have them split off into two "networks"; that are independent. I am going to go with "door number one" and trade in the legacy for the new version. Now, if you don't have any of the new devices you set up (I think!) will continue to work. You will just be excluded from any new features that are delivered in the future.
