Thanks for the detailed comparison but shouldn’t sound quality score be weighted more since they are speakers first 😀

No... because people do drop them and into bad places, What good is a speaker that only plays for 20 min, and finally If they take a month of sundays to charge and are hard to use? WHAT GOOD ARE THEY? None :) Into the bin with them. I think some of them are ugly and resemble suppositories but for 99% of the people out there buying a speaker, this is good enough.

Normally I like to tweak the EQ setting to get the best results but with this speaker it sounds amazing straight out of the box. The Flex has 3 preset EQ settings based on its orientation. Upright is the warm Bose signature sound. On its back is a treble boost with a little bass roll off. And vertical (like if hanging from its loop) is in between the 2. I like on its back the best, next vertical. I do prefer a slightly brighter sound, and on its back or vertical I get that. Thanks for the good summary. I went to the nearest electronics store, where I tried JBL, Sony, Sonos and Bose with my own ear, and finally Bose Soundlink and JBL Charge 5 were left (Yes Charge not the Flip 6) . Bose convinced me with its compact size and surprisingly high-quality sound image. In terms of bass, I couldn't tell much of a difference between Charge what was actually surprising. The instructions for setting up the Bose SoundLink Flex speakers in true stereo mode is on their website. Take one speaker and press the Bluetooth button and the plus button and hold down for 10 seconds until you hear the instructions to press the Bluetooth button and volume down button on the second speaker. Once you press the Bluetooth button and the volume down button on the second speaker for a couple seconds you will eventually hear a message that says “party mode“. You don’t need to go back to the original speaker and press and hold the Bluetooth and plus buttons again until you hear “stereo mode”. The original speaker is your left speaker. Once I did this I was extraordinarily happy with the sound from the speakers.

I've own Bose, JBl, and other small bluetooth speakers that claim that you can link two speakers together but wasn't able to verify those claims with any speakers. How do you link up two speakers if the device you have your music on (i.e. phone, tablet, etc.) is connected to one speaker and switches, disconnect from one device to pair and connect to another device. How do you link up two speakers and why doesn't anyone show this linkage of two speakers in their reviews? Many speakers make this claim but I'm yet to see it be truthful. For all those "reviewing" products why are you sleeping on testing out the product claim of linking 2 speakers?

IT’S LONG BUT PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS. Just a thought on the JBL Flip 6 vs the Bose SoundLink Flex. They are the same size and according to the internet the bose has a larger transducer than the JBL but the JBL has a tweeter and an adjustable equalizer within the app where as at this time on the bose connect app there is not an equalizer to adjust the sound. But I have another bose speaker and it uses a different music app and it runs on the bose msuic app and in the bose music app it has an equalizer so you can adjust the bass and the treble to your liking. And in the JBL portable app you can do the same thing except you can also adjust the mid-range. Bose could add an EQ to there app in the future/near future. Bc I read on the internet that when the JBL flip 6 was released it did not have an adjustable eq within its app for its speakers. But now it has an eq in the app. I think with the equalizer off on the JBL the bose sounds better but with the eq on I think the JBL sounds better. So if bose added an equalizer that could change things. I know the speaker has position IQ technology where it’s supposed to adjust the sound depending on which way you lay it but it would be nice to be able to turn that off if you wanted to. A similar portable speaker called the sonos roam has a similar feature but in the sonos s2 app you can turn that feature off. In the bose app you cannot do that or on the speaker itself either. And also Sonos has an adjustable EQ within the app like the JBL. The bose is behind the times with that but I bet they’ll change for the better. I would turn position IQ off and have an equalizer set to my liking if I could. I prefer my bose soundlink flex to sit upright so it’s pointing at me but they say it will produce more bass if you lay it flat, in my testing this is true. A little more bass for sure. Which I like. But I shouldn’t have to lay it flat to get maximum bass output. And the speaker needs better rubber feet on it because sometimes it will move it self. Or vibrate itself off the table. So I would recommend not placing it near the edge of a table if you don’t have to. Thank you for whoever actually takes the time to read this.

I actually bought a second Flex and have paired for true stereo and while it does sound better and even more dynamic, when I disconnect and go back to one I really don’t feel like the music lost anything. Now if using for movies or TV that is a different story. But I can only contest to the Flex as sounding amazing for a mono speaker.

I’m looking to add a good small Bluetooth speaker to pair with my projector. I care mostly about clarity and vocal sound quality, not so much bass. Costco offers the Bose speaker for $129 so would this be the best option if you don’t plan on using it for music or outdoors?
@joelf556511 ай бұрын
I know old post, but yes the Flex will give you the best vocal quality hands down. If you haven’t bought already be aware the Costco Flex is a tad cheaper cause it doesn’t have a microphone for calls. Otherwise same speaker.

I'd like to hear the connection/disconnection and low battery sounds of different brands. Like I'm annoyed by JBL speaker notification sounds but I don't know if other brands are any better...

Thanks for the reviews..you’ve made my decision more complicated 😫😜 Here in Canada, we don’t have the 2nd generation of the Marshall (well at the few stores I’ve shopped in)but oddly enough have the upgraded colours (black front “grill” and copper/bronze writing) and all the old technology 😔.

Earfun Uboom L Is the answer :)
@joelf556511 ай бұрын
@mavinapril1303 The Uboom l sounded too boxy too me. I didn’t like the vocals at all. Compared to the Flex it lost big time. I sent it back within the 30 days.

The JBL sounded the best in the sound test hands down. Crisp and clean with the perfect balance in everything 👌

I agree and the difference is very noticeable. As a former sound engineer, my opinion is none are perfect or even close to it, but the JBL at least tries to be.

what baffles me is how the sound quality doesn't have priority when it comes to the final score. It's a SPEAKER and it's the most important quality!!

@@EvanLovell lol that’s not true) check reviews and you will find out that bose flex is pretty good portable speaker for its value and also very balanced. I had jbl flip 6 and marshall emberton II, but I like warm bose signature sound more.

@@IceQuiky the reason why it has good reviews because bose pushes the mids so dam high making people think "wow this has good bass" when it just the mids all bose does it pushes mids and some vocal and overprice it

When i listened at the end it seemed like the Bose was best, Sonos 2nd, JBL 3rd in terms of sound in the room. I did notice something unique about the JBL, it might have been the loudness with the vocals. But the Bose and Sonos had more immersion i guess. I preferably like the shape of the Sonos when it comes to portability. Plus the Bose wasn't rated well for durability and it seems more likely to get scratched during traveling in a bag since it's so bulky. The sonos is more compact and can probably be more easily cushioned during travel. In the end it's still a hard pick

when it comes to sound quality it all depends what kind of music you test also each individual has a different taste in sound and each human ear hears sounds different same as we see the colour shades different. to me bose does separate lows from highs way too much and i feel that all that is in between lows and highs is missing. UE boom it sounds like is playing from underwater is muffed and flat. Jbl could be nice but i tend to hear noise on lows. sonos and marshall are quite dynamic but i tend to like more the marshall signature sound than sonos somehow sonos i think sound signature is more optimized for cinema while marshall has that concert stage sound signature

So JBL only wins on the personal design preference? I personally do not like those barrel designs and find the feature of the Bose being both directional when sitting up and also how it changes the sound when laid flat as well as other comparisons that show it to be far tougher making it (for me) the clear winner

The JBL Charge 5 could've probably been included in this test since the Flip 6 is definitely smaller than some of those speakers. That Marshall looks like its about the same size as the Charge 5. How do you think it would slot into this lineup? I got my Charge 5 a week ago and I have been using it a lot to break in the speakers and I have been really impressed with the sound, especially at low/medium volume 20-50% but I have noticed some crackling/stuttering that happens occasionally for a few seconds and I think it is a bluetooth connection issue although it happens even when my phone is close to the speaker. I am shopping around to see what alternatives there are. I will return the Charge 5 for a replacement but if the issue persists then I will have to switch to a different speaker because I won't put up with shoddy bluetooth in a brand new speaker.

@@fightamvs6355 I didn’t end up returning it and the problem still persists. There was an update for the speaker a couple of days ago though and the issue hasn’t happened since. I will keep testing. It never happens with any of my other Bluetooth devices.
