Reason for this was the arrival of Chinese brands in the smartphone segment. It was start back in a 2015 but gained actual momentum after the jios entry. They gave feature rich smartphones at lowered price, which none other brands were given at that time. The downside was they killed the competition by agressive pricing, copying designs to save RnD expenditure and time and quality wasn't any good. Result was a good hardware rich phone but equally pathetic in user experience becoz of the ads, bloatware and data stealing.

Things which phones are missing now a days are IR blaster, notification led with customisable colours, FM radio. Then they should improve on safety features like if the phone detects motion and is being used at the same it should use its cameras to detect if the user is driving and in that case it should atleast pop up a warning. Similarly if the phone detects a crash or a fall it should be able to send an SOS to the preselected users. I think pop up selfie cameras should come back as they have a big advantage in terms of privacy. Simply getting a green dot which may or may not be recognised by an average user as compared to a pop up camera which needs to physically come out to start recording. There are so many things that can be improved but all focus is on gimmicks. While manufacturers are so much pressing on reducing e waste but no one has launched a phone that can be charged by solar power atleast as an option like how Casio watches do. I can go on and on but smart phone manufacturers are more interested in selling features which many don't ever use.
