@Howard Kornblum Stewart Elliot was not an apprentice jockey...if you listen to the caller in the Derby, he was a journeyman. Belmont was heartbreaking
@SupermanChiChi3 жыл бұрын
@@annhathaway1475 so much has been said about the 2004 Belmont, but in my opinion it was simply a tough loss for a gutsy horse like Smarty Jones. Stewart Elliot rated this horse in the Belmont the same way re rode him the Derby & Preakness, with a keen eye on the leader. >>> nothing would have been said if Smarty would have hung on and won by a nose

@@SupermanChiChi If Birstone wasn't in the Belmont they would have called Smarty's performance dominating. He left them all in the dust in the Belmont......but Birdstone got the trip as the others did the hard work and faded.
@@SupermanChiChi True. Jerry Bailey did purposely burn his horse up early as if he didn't care if he could win or not. It was telling that Eddington's connections too Bailey off after that race and he didn't ride him again. But, as you say, Smarty never quit and hit the wire less than a full length away from a Triple Crown. He doesn't owe anybody anything. I'm heartbroken to this day, but that's life.

Smarty Jones was a big-time horse!! Won the Derby and Preakness! Went to the Belmont undefeated in all of his races and came up short. Still my favorite horse ever. Philadelphia ❤.

Still to this day my favorite horse. I'm from Arkansas so I got to see him race at Oaklwan early as he made his way to the Derby. First time I saw him I knew he was gonna be special and he didn't disappoint.

I think smarty jones was drugged for the Belmont watch in the preakness and the derby he had plenty of gas to go 1.5 miles ...just my opinion. horse racing is corrupt

I agree. It was a fucking disgrace what happened.

He wasn't drugged.. Stewart Elliott panicked and choked.. they could've run around the Belmont oval TWICE and the other horses would've never caught him!! Period!!!!

@@boxcarent.3147 Stewart Elliott is one of the Best Looking Riders on this planet, If you don’t know what happened don’t talk, Jerry Bailey had a lot to do with the loss is Smarty, Smarty started having Issues in his Tendons, that’s why he never even trained Leading up to the Race, there’s a reason why Stewart Elliott is one of the very few that has over 5000 wins, Look at how low he gets on a horse compared to these “good jockeys” lmao, You know nothing about racing and it shows

@@boxcarent.3147 no way. he might have gone to left hand urging at the top, for smarty to pick birdstone up sooner. but when he let him out, he had every reason to believe he was home. I don't blame SE. That horse was all heart.
