Well, we already know Michael is back in the last two episodes of the season. And it's pretty much guaranteed that he'll be a series regular next season therefore, he'll be back for good as a major character among the rest. The storyline between him and Julia is just too good for them to do away with. A lot of people like it (myself included obviously) and others don't. Either way, it makes for good drama which is good tv.
