@keelcooler88 Agree. They actually recorded both the slow version and the fast one for Melon Collie. Corgan had 1 day to pick between the two or 1979 would have been cut from the record all together. I agree, the slow one has that feel to it that's irreplaceable. I love when he plays it acoustically with just him and the crowd. It's an artist-audience connection like no other.

Kenny Aronoff is a great musician: the "overdrumming" feel of the Adore tour was intentional, I think to react to Jimmy absence (don't forget that Pumpkins chose to have TWO drummers on stage). Anyway: I don't particularly like the reworking of pre-Adore song made for this tour, but 1979 is an exception... I really LOVE this arrangement.

The slow version makes this song, but its not the drummers fault, the band played most of the songs on this concert up beat to give more energy to the crowd. Drummer was filling in for JC because he got fired from the band in 95, He's Kenny Aronoff and He's one of the all time greatest drummers. Ever hear of google? Google him m fers.

+R Head This is how they played it every night on this tour sadly. I was at the Shepherds Bush Empire gig, they played 70% new stuff (That wasn't out yet) and the rest was reworkings like this. I was a massive fan at the time but I hated the gig, it was so dissapointing. Billy Corgan is a total genius but he re-defined the meaning of the expression "Doing it the hard way". I could have happily accepted hearing 50% new stuff and 50% MCIS/SD/GISH but played the same way as it was on the album. Once in a blue moon I like a reworking like for example Disarm with distortion, if you can call that a re-working. Most of the time reworking your songs to me is the most self indulgent and misguided thing for a band to do. Ok do it if you have to, but release the re-workings so we can get used to them and then enjoy them live. Playing them live and expecting crowds to get them first time out is a totally selfish and deluded.
