Man, Billy put Kiki thru the ringer with this setlist... Gossamer right off the bat? Wow
@claytuckett18306 ай бұрын
If you can't play Gossamer you probably don't belong on SP's stage. Jeff was playing Gossamer from day one as well so this is a very fitting setlist choice to test Kiki's abilities, and she did a great job.

@@claytuckett1830she flubbed an easy solo in Panopticon. That wasn’t encouraging.

@@claytuckett1830 I hear you, but she's had barely a week of rehearsals with the band in-person... Jeff was playing with Billy for a year or so before his first show

@@thenewholistic I think we're on the same page here. I don't think she's doing a bad job, all things considered. I'm certain after a few warm up shows she'll be nailing every note and even if she doesn't, she's already killing it on stage in my opinion.

@@BullyMaguire4ever She'll get up to speed after a show or two. She's already proven she can handle the majority of the material they're playing.

Seeing the original 30 plus minute versions of Gossamer live in 2007 was awesome.

Hey Spaldz, about your description and having your arm tired at some point (thanks a LOT for this recording anyway) : I was at the 1st reunion show in Paris on May 22nd 2007 where they played Gossamer for the first time. I had a very good friend and TSP fan who couldn't attend; so I had phoned her quickly during Bullet With Butterfly Wings to share a bit of the show. Then I thought let's share the next one too and after some minutes started wondering "oh my what's going on?! I sense it's gonna be a prog track". The performance lasted for 18min XD (call was ended way before of course)

Haha great story and yes should have done some arm training ready for this concert had I known they'd play this!

They didn't even play a full gossamer!!!!!!fuck that's meant to be a 30min track!
@claytuckett18306 ай бұрын
They played a version similar to this in 2008 for the 20th anniversary shows. They only had two hours last night so using a quarter of that time for one song makes no sense, especially since they haven't played a show in the UK in years. Some of us would've appreciated the full version, but many people would've criticized the choice to play for 30 minutes.

I went to 2 of the San Fran residency shows in 07 and 1st show I attended ended with Gossamer. Then flew back couple night later and they opened with Gossamer. Over an hour straight! Didn't realize how awesome that was at the time.

I guess for The Spaniards climax, neither James nor Kiki could hang for a dualing solo like Jeff did with Billy.

Billy shredding like crazy sounded amazing. No dualing guitars needed.

Kiki can shred... give her time to find her niche and build that chemistry with WPC and we're going to see 🎆

Losing Jeff is a double edged sword. He was so good at just wailing away and creating an intense wall of lead tone. That said he is not as clever as Billy or James at coming up with memorable parts... and this change may force those two to take more of the lead which will be closer to the 90s SP sound

Sounds amazing. I can't tell if it's just the recording or if there are a few spots toward the beginning of Gossamer where the wrong notes are played by at least one of the guitarists. Not that noticeable but wondering if anyone else could hear it. *Edit: For the record, I think Kiki did a phenomenal job based on all the videos I've seen so far, but there's always room for improvement when one is playing with some of the greatest musicians of all-time. Also, this video doesn't show exactly who was missing the notes and it's natural for us all to assume it was Kiki, but in the Panopticon performance, James very obviously missed a note at the end of the solo. All things considered, everyone is doing a phenomenal job.

Really annoying lighting, why do they opt for the blue tinge it looks terrible washes everything out, if they went with nice white lights and natural it would look way better!
