I didn't know it was allowed to use already prepared lambda during competitions 😂 Anyway well done, I always discover new tips through your videos👍

Thanks Christian! If you watch the live streams now, you'll often see people using prepared LAMBDAs. I'm not crazy about the idea (I think it makes the competition seem more intimidating to new people), but since that's the rule I've got my LAMBDAs : )

@@DimEarly I also watched "write a formula in excel like a programmer" one of your video a year ago and I only just understand the concept recently, it would be really great if you make a video only dedicated on recursive lambda like when a recursive lambda is needed, its advantage and disadvantages, I find it's a pretty powerful tool on excel

I was going to record my walkthrough of the solution...but now I feel a bit (lot) of imposter syndrome! What really impressed me about this is that you are not rushing it at all, and I think you benefited during the last events from a more relaxed approach. "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" IMO perfectly applies to this performance. Of course running at crazy APMs helps, but I think the biggest return lies in identifying and applying a very simple yet solid and scalable approach, because with that you can really avoid unnecessary steps and save entire minutes of effort. Congratulations again!

Thanks Lorenzo! I don't think you need to feel any imposter syndrome though... this was a case that fit my style very nicely, but I think it's fair to say you've shown you can compete at the top level in this format (even if that's not yet reflected in the round you've made it to... but as you know, I came in as one of the favorites and went out in round 3 both of my first two years!)

Your work and speed in this is inspiring. This is when I feel like being new to the scene gets in my head. It's hard to simulate the stakes of a competition when in practice. I thought i was doing very well, and I wish I could have another go at this attempt because I was able to easily complete the remainder of what I missed shortly after the competition. Still proud of my performance, but looking forward to having another competition soon.

Thanks Diarmuid, I just started doing these and it's made me realise what a complete novice I am but watching you do that, and live to boot, is unbelievably impressive! Thanks for the motivation to stick at it!!

It's worth mentioning that you and your partner covered 2d lockups at your bootcamp - I think that saved a lot of players a fair bit of time. Thanks for your work to foster and support the scene.👍

Vey impressive! I learned a lot from watching. I gave everything a named range but individually like "acidity", etc and then again "CAcidity" for the customer value, didn't take long but you just named the whole range as one and were done with it which saves more time. Maybe I need to get more comfortable working in arrays then I would have more confidence just naming an array instead. Setting up the lambdas was also really good prep. When looking up the lowest absolute value difference for the wine attribute I was worried about the duplicates so used something to pull out all values at the minimum difference then used a sort formula to arrange alphabetically and then choose row 1 to get the right value. Such a waste now seeing that they are in order anyway. Question 7 also threw me off as I couldn't get to -33 in the example and was getting to 35, took about 5 mins of messing around before I ignored it. I need to get better at navigating and shortcuts as well as spend a lot of time moving and using the mouse, the case was reasonable enough difficulty wise that I could answer everything within around 50 minutes but getting the time down to 30 needs a lot more work. I think I will go through your solution in the file to understand it better and hopefully over the months I can improve!

Thanks Renier! Not gonna lie, the Irishman in me cringed at the self promotion… maybe a sign of how long I’ve been away! 😂

Thank you Dim for the video, I want to know where did you find the preview video? And when FMWC released it (5 mins before the case or within the case? Would you elaborate more on this?

I forgot to reply to this earlier, but hopefully you saw I included that piece in my last video so you can see exactly where. They usually send the email out about 45 minutes before the final time for completing the case, so if you open it right away you can get almost 15 mins to think about it or set up LAMBDAs. Sometimes there’s not much to learn at that stage and you just get started, but sometimes it can be very helpful to write something.

in addition to echoing all the sentiments expressed in the other comments on your outstanding performance, I picked up a new word "sommelier".
